Subject: Does anyone still beleive that God talks |
Bible Note: Greetings Kalos - I'm glad to read that you recognize that God still speaks! You asked: "You are not giving equal weight to the written Word of God and 'What we "hear" from God in our day to day lives,' are you?" Of course not! First of all, I agree with Doc - What God has revealed about His plan for the redemption of man is a closed issue - but He does not leave us comfortless or without His guiding presence in our daily lives. I am so thankful for His Spirit. I do not disagree that God has given each of us different gifts, but I do not believe that each of us as individuals do not have the abiblity to "hear" His voice through His Spirit as revealed in His Word, through prayer, in our circumstances and through other believers. Because I was raised in tradition that does not recognize the continued operation of spiritual gifts, I struggled for many months when God invaded my life with His voice. Suffice it to say that it is most often unbidden, BUT He has also answered my prayer for understanding of what He has revealed as well. I find that this is an awesome and fearful responsibility, especially when I am directed to another. I find it discouraging to read that God doesn't speak to us anymore except through the Bible . . . this causes me to hesitate and provokes me to retreat to my former doubts. I find that my desire to be used by God in this way wanes when when His manner of revelation is the subject of ridicule or criticism. "Indeed, has God said," comes to mind . . . Thank you for your posts Kalos, I gleen much from what you share with the Forum. Blessings to you, mommapbs |
