Bible Question:
I have infused absolutely nothing into the reading of this scripture. It speaks for itself. Six years of planting and harvest, the seventh is a full year of rest, a Sabbath that is one year in duration. What "idea" specifically are you accussing of me of stating? You seem to be the one infusing a doctrine, that of the Ussher doctrine, one that is not Biblically based, or did I miss a passage that states that creation is 6006 years old? The Holy Bible states who created(God), what was created (the Heavens and the Earth), how it was created (God spoke it into being), why it was created (because it was "very good") and it even tells us WHEN.....in the "beginning".....However please note that no man made date or calendar is present. Any apparent contradiction must stem from human misinterpretation. The only purpose served by Ussher's chronology is a feeble attempt to make people comfortable or uncomfortable, as the case may be, about the awesome creative power of a God that is far beyond the rationalizing capabilites of either you or I. Yes, for all I know the earth might be 6,006 years old. I do know that all truth is God's truth and I am not willing to make a fool of the Almighty's plan by trying to incorporate a young earth philosophy into scripture when it is not needed to adhere to the message of salvation. I can say with confidence that there is no specific record of what day or time God created. Having said that I'm still willing to listen to your reasoning why I am wrong, as long as it is scripturally sound reasoning based on truth and not assumptive speculation. Your brother in Christ |
Bible Answer: Hello nimrod2 Let me chime in as one following the discussion. The difficulty appears to have come when you made the following statement: "Here we clearly see the land being subject to a year long Sabbath day" (Mon 04/15/02, 12:46pm). If you had stated "a year long Sabbath", not using the word "day", I don't think there would have been much of a problem. Steve |
