Bible Question:
In studing 'once saved always saved' I come to the verses in Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10: 26-31. I have to say that we can loss our Salvation if we turn from God? Is this correct? |
Bible Answer: Hebrews 6:4-6 Christ can only go to the cross once. He went to the cross once for us all. He went to the cross for me, once for you, once for everyone. When I accepted Jesus, he is no longer on that cross for me. All this passage is saying is that Jesus can never get back on that cross again once he came down off of it. So one cannot lose and regain his salvation. In reference to Hebrews 10:26... All who hear the word of Salvation 'now received the knowledge of the truth', but just having the knowledge of the truth does not mean you're saved. Once the Holy Spirit tugs at your heart, and you reject it and keep on rejecting the word 'there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins', the Holy Spirit will cease to tug at you heart after so much time. How much time I do not know. This is not talking to Christians but to those who have not accepted Jesus into their Heart. Christians cannot lose their salvation Ka_Lyn. Salvation is a gift from God and once recieved, a gift cannot be taken away. Once you’re in God's hands, nothing can get you out of them. How can salvation be 'Eternal' if one can lose it. John 10:27-30 states 'My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one'. Once we're saved, we should strive to be like Christ in all we do and think but we shall never be apart from Jesus. He promises to never leave us nor forsake us. Hebrews 13:5 Philippians 1:6 'Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ': Now sure we're going to stumble, and sin but see what God says here in the Psalms... Psalm 37:23-24 'The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand'. The only things Christians lose are their rewards in Heaven according to the works that they do and don't do. Matthew 16:27 'For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works'. 2 Timothy 4:8 'Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing'. Make no mistake, Salvation is not a crown of righteousness. When we do good works we receive crowns so that we may throw them at Jesus' feet. Revelation 22:12 'And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be'. I can go on and on here but you get the idea. It is good for us to talk out the scriptures; 2 Timothy 3:16-17 'All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works', but let us not go too far with each other.
