Bible Note: Read Acts 2:38 again, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. The instructions in John 20:23 are to those that are given the authority to baptize. John the Baptist showed that responsibility when he refused to baptize Pharisees and Sadducees until he seen evidence of repentance, Matt.3:5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. The blood of Jesus was shed for the remission of sins, God's word ties remission of sins to baptism not some idea of man. God had Elijah the prophet tell Naaman, who had leprosy, to dip seven times in the Jordon river to be healed. Naaman was mad but was convinced to give it a try. He was healed, why? the water of the Jordon river! no, becaused he did what the word of the Lord said to do. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Amen, it is not of ourselves, we simply follow the instructions God gave us. Sharp |
