Bible Note: Raven, thanks for your input; your posted scriptural passages, however, fall short of proof of your position. Your invitation to read the book of Acts comes late; I have read it, studied it, and taught classes on it. As I have heretofore iterated, I'm well acquainted with your position, having been raised up in a Church of Christ environment. Their position then, and may be still, was that they were THE church and all other faiths were "denominations" -- merely man-made organizations. Now, many, many years later, and many, many hours of thought, prayer, Bible study and rumination later, I am convinced that no given group of believers has any biblical mandate for exclusivism; that salvation is by the grace of God and comes through faith in the Lord Jesus, exclusive of works or any other trappings including water baptism; that water baptism is a church ordinance to be administered only to regenerate believers; that instrumental music in worship is in no way proscribed by Scripture; and that the regenerate believer is kept for all eternity by the love of God that will not let him go, i.e, his salvation is secure for all eternity..... I do, however, share common ground with a portion of what you have said. I too look with a jaundiced eye upon the trend in some religious groups to dispense the feel-good warm fuzzies in lieu of sound doctrine; to drift off into the apostasy of liberalism, a.k.a., secular humanism; and for the body of Christ to cloister itself into divisive clusters of provincial denominationalism. --Hank |
