Makarios, the strange thing about this forum "election" is that it's been going on for months with no declared winners yet! The heated presidential election in Florida pales in comparison to it. I think it's about time we tuck the hanging chads into a vault, lock it, and throw away the key. This continuum of debate on election, limited atonement and other tenets of reformed theology is not only endless, but highly biased. The only real purpose it is serving, and not a particularly meritorious one at that, is giving the advocates of reformed theology a soap-box on which to speak their piece. Meanwhile the majority of us are supposed to sit back and watch these views aired over and over, day after day, with no apparent end in sight. I would say that no one is being really edified by it, and I doubt that few if any are buying their argument about limited atonement and such. I should rather think that new believers and would-be believers are being confused, abashed, and turned away by it It is in poor taste at the least and flat wrong at the most to air on this forum a daily megadose of one-sided denominational bias, and air it over and over and over to the point of disgust. The reformers have had their say. We know what their views are. It's time and past time for them to pack up their Reformed-Calvinist medicine bag. We have already had an over-dose. --Hank

Dear Brother Hank, My initial reply to this post has been troubling me. It was written right after I read your post to Markarios. I asked my helpmate to read both posts and give me her opinion. Like me she disagreed with the sentiments expressed in your post, however I was distressed by her opinion of my reply to you. She told me it was unchristian. That it sounded sarcastic and unloving. Being the hard-headed, stubborn sinner I am, I brushed off her analysis. I felt justified in my anger and have resisted any desire to apologize to you. Pride and self-righteous indignation have prevented me from not coming to you until now. The fact you did not reply to my post, has led me to believe you may be hurt or even angered by it. If that is the case, I ask for your forgiveness. Matt 5:23,24 "Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering." Your Brother in Christ, John |

John, it was Abraham Lincoln, I believe, who said he believed it wise to write a letter to someone with whom he sharply disagreed and really "let them have it" in no uncertain terms, no holes barred, to really let off one's steam and frustraton. Then, instead of mailing it, tear it up and toss it in the trash can. Retrospection shows me clearly that I'd have been far wiser to have followed Lincoln's example in the post which raised your ire and you perhaps in the response to it. But since the die was cast by both of us, it becomes now our burden to follow the example of the One who is far wiser than Lincoln ever was, and to forgive, thoroughly and deep-down, any hard feelings either of us has caused the other. This I do you and beg you do so to me. I prize your closing with "Your brother in Christ" and so I likewise close with, Your brother in Christ, thus denouncing the importance of our differences and embracing the importance of our agreements. --Hank
