1 | cult by what definition? | Bible general Archive 1 | teragram123 | 57187 | ||
EdB please answer... I noticed by your profile that you enjoy apologetics/ and the study of the cults... Can you please tell me why there are so few writers that will name the Catholic church as a cult. Yet in the study of cults myself, I find that the definition given for cults fully fit the Catholic church. If she is not a cult, please explain to me how she is Christian. And which definition for cults does not fit her? I was raised in the Catholic church and read my way out... and it amazes me that so few Christians will address the real issues. I never missed catechism class or mass in 33 years... yet never once was I led in the sinners prayer or even told that I was a sinner needing to be saved. The word “saved” was what I thought to be a protestant term. If she is Christian, why was I lost right in the midst of her? I was as devout as I believe I could have been. |

I would like offer a statement in the form of a question. Can this issue of what is a cult or who is a heretic be answered by: BELOVED, DO not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world. By this you may know (perceive and recognize) the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [actually] has become man and has come in the flesh is of God [has God for its source]; And every spirit which does not acknowledge and confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh [but would annul, destroy, sever, disunite Him] is not of God [does not proceed from Him]. This [ nonconfession] is the [spirit] of the antichrist, [of] which you heard that it was coming, and now it is already in the world. I John 4:1-3 Just a thought... Abba Father bless... |

Unfortuanately it cannot. for the simple reason that Even though the catholic church admits that God is triune and say that Jesus came in the flesh they also hold to other erroneous teachings. Likewise even though the word of faith admits that Jesus came in the flesh they too are considered to hold to an erroneous view of his coming. It's like everybody says. Yes,yes, I agree to that. But somebody else says, no you really don't because you don't belong to our group OR we don't think that's what you really mean by it. That's why we've got whole groups of organizations devoted to proving everyone else is wrong. And they say that Paul encouraged us to devote our time to proving each other wrong. I personally cannot find a calling in the Bible that's specifically devoted to hunting heresy. Paul dealt with it, but he also planted churches. etc. He was actively fulfilling the great commission. NOT just telling others how to do it. Those who can't do teach. Yes that probably offends many people, I'm sorry. Truth sometimes hurts. Someone told me once, Winning souls is no sign that you are genuine and correct in your doctrine. Or even a Christian. That may be so, but NO GENUINE CHRISTIAN doesn't win souls and makes that his aim. Christianity is not proving your doctrine but "doing the will of my Father." "Working the works of him that sent Me." How many souls are won into the kingdom? "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature, and make disciples of all nations." That should be the end of every true ministry. Jesus said let the tares and wheat grow together. Lest you loose some wheat. In the end, The Lord knows those who are His, and let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity. James 3:13 |
