Subject: cult by what definition? |
Bible Note: In the Andes Okay have you read Christianity in Crisis? If not will you read it? I thought not! Having studied the Word of Faith movement both from the outside and from the inside for over 15 years I feel fairly qualified to make the statement on the two doctrines on prosperity within the Word of Faith movement. As far as heretical practices within any other denomination, since that is not the basis of their belief and is not part of their statement of faith, nor is the direction or vision of the denomination I see no point in making an issue of them. But any casual observer of the religious scene has seen them within the last 10-15 years. I did not call you heretic nor did I mean to imply you were a heretic. I was asked about Catholicism and I answered it. I also replied to a statement where you said, "if someone said something about one denomination they should say something about another." As to the fundamental issues you find heretical within the Catholic church what is the church’s stance on those issues? How does the church define those issues. What does their statement of faith say about those issues? How is that statement of faith in conflict with orthodox Christianity? If you do any investigation you will find they are all within the scope of orthodox Christianity. While you and I may not agree with them, by definition they are not heretical nor are they cultic. For instance the reading of James 5;13-16 by the Catholic church is seen as sufficient support for “Last Rites” I and most probably you see this as a prescription given to a Christian for a healing. I can see how the Catholic church gets last rites out this text but I think healing from a disease is much clearer understanding. In the Andes before we take this any further do some study find out about the Catholic church and study on Word of Faith, then come back and we can discuss it. EdB |
