1 | WHO pays the wage? | 1 John 1:9 | Morant61 | 134760
Greetings Dalcent! There is a possible middle position. That position could be summed up as 'acts of sin' cannot effect our salvation, but the gift of salvation can be rejected. This would seem to do justice to the Scriptures quoted by both sides. I would be curious as to how you would respond to the following passages from your perspective. Jude 24 - "To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen." If we can cease to be 'saved' by commiting an act of sin, can God really keep us from falling? And, Rom. 8:39 - "neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Is our salvation a hoped for future event, or is it an accomplished fact? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | WHO pays the wage? | 1 John 1:9 | Dalcent | 134769
According to the JOINT LUTHERAN-CATHOLIC DECLARATION ON THE DOCTRINE OF JUSTIFICATION 1997. Catholics and Lutherans are 'now able to articulate a common understanding of our justification by God's grace through faith in Christ' The document is at http://www.cin.org/users/james/files/jddj.htm and articulates my position far better than I can. Greetings Dalcent! I'm still trying to get the entire page to load! :-) While searching for another site to download it from, I found a Lutheran critique of the Declaration. Just to provide the proverbial 'fair and balanced' view, here is the link for that site: http://www.ctsfw.edu/ctq/joint.htm Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
