1 | Are we still in the fallen state? | 1 John 1:9 | Allegrobike | 134077
Following the new birth there remains within us the carnal nature prone to sin, however, if our sins past present and future are covered by the shed blood of our Savior and they are no longer in view of the Father, are we not in the same relationship with the Father as Adam and Eve before the fall?
2 | Are we still in the fallen state? | 1 John 1:9 | JCrichton | 134078
Hi, Allegro! I know that many people subscribe to "don't ask, don't tell" everything's done in Jesus... Jesus did die for all sin once and for all--it is He that needs not face sin and the consequences of sin ever again... we on the other hand are not God! Our world is the realm of Satan and he will fight till the bitter end the disrupt God's Plan of Salvation! John tells us that if we are of the Light there is no darkness (sin) in us... yet he also tells us that if we claim to be free of sin we are liars! It is Jesus who can cleanse us if we confess our sins! If we simply tell the "store-keep" to keep an open tab cause we have unlimited credit... we would simply be acting as the foolish servant who keeps thinking that his Master will not come back or that he can clause his way out of it if he is ever questioned about his rampant rebelliousness and misuse of authority! God Bless! Angel |

3 | Are we still in the fallen state? | 1 John 1:9 | Mommapbs | 134085
Angel - We do not obtain forgiveness by our confession - this would be a "work." We are forgiven because of Christ's shed blood and on the cross - He died once for all. The penalty has been paid. By our confession we proclaim what Christ has done for us and experience the joy of the forgiveness that WE ALREADY HAVE in Him. Jesus HAS cleansed us; our sins have been removed as far as the east is from the west. Hebrews 10: 17 says:"AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE." We have confidence before God because of our justification, which is the forgiveness of ALL sin and the imputation of the righteousness of Christ. This does not mean that our sinful nature is gone - but with the presence of the Holy Spirit, we are no longer a slave to it, nor do we reap the consequences of that nature (eternal separation from God)- for our debt has been paid and cancelled. Yes, if we choose to indulge that nature and continue in sin, we will reap the effects of sin - loss of fellowship with God, Divine discipline (not punishment) as well as the temporal consequences associated with the sin. As we mature in our walk with God, the sin that the Holy Spirit reveals more often deals with the sins of omission and our sinful motives rather than the overt or obvious sins of comission. To suggest that our forgiveness is conditional upon our confession of our sin is to make Christ's blood insufficient - Heb 9 22,28 Blessings, mommapbs |

4 | Are we still in the fallen state? | 1 John 1:9 | JCrichton | 134170
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) Hi, Mommapbs! So you are saying that Jesus and the Apostles had it all wrong or that their definition of confessing only meant to be administered to the non-Christians? And whenever they spoke to Believers they really only meant it figuratively so that nonbelievers could get the hint to confess their sins, turn back to God in the new born again creature? But once in the Body there is no sin? Please do not deceive yourself, Scripture does not speak of an automatic-forgiveness-of-sin machine!: I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19) "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 18:18) "To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets (I will not impose any other burden on you): Only hold on to what you have until I come. To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations--‘He will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery‘--just as I have received authority from my Father. I will also give him the morning star. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 2:18-29) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. (James 5:16) God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. (Acts 5:31) Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds. (Acts 19:18) True in Christ all sin is forgiven, with the exception of Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, but there is no single Scripture verse that tells us that once born again we are free of sin or the consequences of sin! Jesus tells us that we must abide in Him, in His Word and His Word command that we seek God and flee from sin... not that we are given the liberty to sin profusely because Christ's Omnipotence and His ability to absorb sin is immeasurable: What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! (Romans 6:15-21) The wage of sin is death--this never stops being true, even for those who come to Christ and willfully chose to return to sin! God Bless! Angel |

5 | WHO pays the wage? | 1 John 1:9 | Mommapbs | 134180
Angel - you wrote: "The wage of sin is death--this never stops being true, even for those who come to Christ and willfully chose to return to sin!" So then what hope or confidence do I have as a believer if Christ's death was not sufficient to pay the "wage" of my sin? Of what purpose was Christ's death if my sins result in death? As you noted from Romans 6 - When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. . . .You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. What does it mean to be set free from sin? Does it mean that I no longer sin or that I am set free from the "wages" of sin? Are you saying that IF we don't confess our willful sin, we will pay the wage???? |

6 | WHO pays the wage? | 1 John 1:9 | Pastor Ross | 134210
We do for the bible plainly states that the wages of sin is death, this is separation from God in our sprit as well as natural death, if you live right we are rewared, if won't we are still rewarded, be ye not deceived God is not mocked whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap
7 | If you live right, you are rewarded? | 1 John 1:9 | Mommapbs | 134214
If you live right, you are rewarded? Please support this statement. Where does God's Word say that if a regenerated believer does not confess sin he/she will pay the "wages of sin?" |

8 | If you live right, you are rewarded? | 1 John 1:9 | Glory Bound | 134262
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man ACCORDING TO HIS WORKS. Mat 16:27 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Heb 6:4-6 GB |

9 | If you live right, you are rewarded? | 1 John 1:9 | Mommapbs | 134315
GB - Salvation is NOT a reward for "good works" or right living. Eph 2:8-9; Titus 3:5 Jesus will indeed "reward" - unbelievers will get the wage of sin - eternal separation from God and believers will be given the gift of eternal life because of what Christ HAS done for them ( Rom 5: 1,9-10; 2 Cor 5:21) and rewarded for what He has done through them (John 15:5; 1 Cor 3:9-15) - it's all about Jesus. HIS WORK alone is pleasing to God. "This is My Beloved Son in Whom I am well-pleased." When Christ works in and though us, God is well pleased too. Even when a believer is disobedient, Christ's finished WORK of redemption provides our righteousness; we may thwart His activity in our lives but HE is still at work IN us by the Holy Spirit who testifies of our "son ship" (Romans 8:16). By no means am I excusing sin in the life of a believer - it grieves God and SHOULD grieve us as well. Blessings, mommapbs |

10 | If you live right, you are rewarded? | 1 John 1:9 | Glory Bound | 134338
I have often thought of the term "double negative" concerning such. It seems it may apply here. Sin graves the Holy Spirit. Thus it cannot possibly please God when a believer is disobedient. I would think that the only thing pleasing about it would be the believer’s faithful dependency on His son for success against sin. GB |
