1 | is it wrong to wear fine clothing | 1 Tim 2:9 | EdB | 119084
shadow_thorn I live in Florida where shorts are common and let me assure you on some of our older residents they are anything but attractive or lustful. :-) Seriously there are shorts and then there are shorts. Scripture says to dress modestly and I believe everyone knows what attracts attention and what is done for comfort. I attend a church where three exotic dancers attend. One of the ladies is making a real effort to get her life on track, one of the other is also making great strides and the third is relatively new in the process. Each week you can watch the transformation. The first young girl comes dressed in very modest attire, the second one each week gets better and the third still raises some eyebrows. If you asked anyone in the church or on the street they would be able to pick out the girl that still dances they would chose the third one. If you asked anyone to pick out the most attractive they would pick the first. However when they first came to the church probably everyone would have picked one of the other two. The first girl’s beauty is not because she is physically prettier but because she has a transformed by Jesus Christ and her beauty overshadows the beauty of this world. Her modest attire speaks volumes of her confidence and sense of self worth, she doesn’t have to display herself as a piece of cheap merchandise to be noticed. Her beauty comes from her countenance and her character. Truly she is gem that has been pulled from the muck and mire and polished transformed into a sparkling jewel to the glory of God. I’m happy to say a discerning young man also realized this and has made her his wife. They make a beautiful couple. The other two girls are being transformed and polished. I know that when Jesus is finished with them they too will be sparkling jewels depending on the beauty God has imparted into them to make them out standing, not the lust they able to generate by displaying themselves cheaply to this world. 2 | is it wrong to wear fine clothing | 1 Tim 2:9 | Rowdy | 119086
I have to agree with the overall sentiment of your post. Modesty is a serious issue to which all of us, men and women should pay more attention. God most certainly does expect us to think about our appearance just as if we were able to see His Person when He joins us in our worship together. BUT also I think He's willing to be somewhat forgiving when the weather or conditions encourage many people to wear shorts; they can wear them modestly. It's wonderful that your congregation is receptive and willing to support the membership of people like this with that kind of background. I'm hoping that they've also realized the type of work they're doing is also not pleasing to their Lord. Hopefully, they can get into a training program or go to school to learn a trade or some other profession. God bless you and yours. --Rowdy |

3 | is it wrong to wear fine clothing | 1 Tim 2:9 | EdB | 119091
Rowdy Let me say for a young woman to make this transformation is very difficult. A dancer makes between 400 to 600 dollars a night with a some going as high as 800. They have lived on that much money for awhile and to take any job means they have to give up a lot. Many are supporting their parents or children and some are also attending College so getting out of dancing really impacts them. My wife was personally helping with another dancer that had 2 children that wanted out of the business. What we found was after she got a job and got some public assistance money and such she was stilling making less a month than she could make dancing one or two nights a month. That impacted where she lived, where her children attended school, their health care and etc. Plus she was in a totally different life style than she had known, she had to clean up her dress, her language, her demeanor. So when you see a young lady making this change don’t think it is easy and something casually done. They have to be really sold out for Jesus to come out of that life style. and I didn't even mention all the other things that goes with dancing, drugs, prostitution, meeting important people, jet setting, movie contracts and etc. Quite frankly there is not a lot of so called Christians that would never have come to Christ had it required as much change in their lives. My heart and prayers go out to these young women. EdB |

My last paragraph "Quite frankly there is not a lot of so called Christians that would never have come to Christ had it required as much change in their lives." should not have contained the word "never" it shoud read. "Quite frankly there is not a lot of so called Christians that would have come to Christ had it required as much change in their lives." Double negative will get you all the time. :-) EdB |

6 | Rowdy, Rowdy, are you sure? | 1 Tim 2:9 | PasserBy | 132029
Rowdy, Rowdy, are you sure? Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men”. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. “And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? … Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? “So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple”. |

I'm not exactly sure what you're questioning "What am I sure" about? I could infer maybe from the previous posts on this thread but I'd rather be certain so please make it plain to me. Tell me exactly what you're trying to say in regard to my previous post. Thanks and God bless. Rowdy
