1 | Did Jesus die spiritually? | 2 Cor 5:21 | Searcher56 | 83168 | ||
Scripture ... Mat 8:22, 10:28; Luk 15:32; Rom 8:10 ... Being separated from God is a spiritual death, it could be temporary, like the Prodigal Son (Luk 15:32) and us. Or it could be permanent, those who die without Him. "And do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" (Mat 10:28). And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness (Rom 8:10). Does this imply without Christ our spirit is dead? "Follow Me; and allow the dead to bury their own dead" (Matt 8:22) ... I doubt He is talking about the physically dead. |

Greetings Searcher! You wrote: "'Follow Me; and allow the dead to bury their own dead' (Matt 8:22) ... I doubt He is talking about the physically dead." I have an old book on oriental customs and culture which makes an interesting observation about this particular verse. It turns out that 'claiming one had to bury their father' was a very common excuse used by orientals to politely get out of doing something which they did not really want to do. So, Jesus response was probably a rebuke of his excuse. Chat with you later my friend! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
