Dear Prayon, You wrote: "If you really feel the need to discuss Calvinism there are numerous other forums where the subject might be welcomed." I apologize in advance for the ironic tone of this note. But I feel that it may be the best means of illustrating the impossibilty of complying with your request. You may might as well have counseled me to avoid the topic of God. The following is a short list of some of the areas where "calvinism" (which is by the way a nickname only) may be construed as applicable. Sin Salvation Atonement Assurance God Man The terms: Foreknowledge ordained predestined. There are other areas that are "overworked" and "divisive as well." Should we avoid them also? Eschatology The Charismata Baptism In the interest of fair play we must also chastise (in love of course) those who espouse any view that smacks of arminianism as well. Do you see the problem? John |

Then why don't we have a discussion on any of those topics without having a debate on whether the Calvinistic views of each topic are right or wrong. Just curious - what is your idea to keep these long repetitive threads off of the forum? prayon |

3 | Whats up with Judgement, calvinists plz? | Rom 9:21 | John Reformed | 61529 | ||
Dear Prayon, My suggestion to Sir Pent, prior to beginning a new thread that deals with God's preordination of all things, was that we drop any reference to our particular theologies and to simply concentrate on the exegesis of the relevant sripture. We were preparing to do just that, when the storm broke out. Rom 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. I hope that all of us have learned to pray for God's grace that we may bridle our respective tongues and to be seekers after "truth" rather than defenders of "traditions". You ask: "what is your idea to keep these long repetitive threads off of the forum?" In my opinion it is neither possible or even desirable and certainly not legal under the guidelines. The appeal of a forum lies in the enthusiasm one feels when they recieve an email that says "Good news Prayon". It is the interaction with others that get the juices flowing. Reading past posts is great! I do it all the time. But what I read induces ideas of my own that I want to raise Now! If I simply wanted to gain knowledge of a doctrine there are hundreds of sites to go to and thousands of books I could choose from. No. That's not the primary reason people become involved with a forum. The want to have an impact on the lives of others and to have their lives impacted as well. If an individual attempts to deny them liberty to operate under the guidelines of the Forum alone, He/she is setting themself up as a self-apponted authority and the people thus restricted will rebel! I have found nothing in those guidelines that discourages repetitive questioning, the esposal of any orthodox Biblical Theology. I also have not found any information pertaining to monitors or overseers that are also members who are identified by user names. If anyone has this "special" authority let him or her present their credentials. These are the guidelines: 1. This post is biblically based and whenever possible, I have included Bible references to support it. 2. This post is not intended as a personal attack on the authority of the Bible or on other users of this forum. 3. This post is not submitted as an effort to foster divisiveness, ill-will, dissension or other disruptions to this forum. 4. I have carefully proofread my post and believe it represents my best efforts. Note there is no mention of long repetitive threads or prohibition of controversial sujects. I respect the right of anyone to holds an opinion to voice that opinion. But I am not bound by mere opinion but only by lawful authority. Do you agree? John |
