1 | A FALSE TEACHING? Yes / No | Matt 8:5 | EdB | 93884
Graceful If your alive you received that life and your breath long before you had any faith. "Lepers were not allowed to go into the city, much less the temple. Jesus said...Go show yourselves to the priests. Ed, would it not take faith to do that? " It would not require faith if they were cleansed, they would not be lepers. We also don't know if they went in or not, we do know only one returned in "faith" to say thank you. The Pslams tells us our works including faith died with us when we die. Lazarus I'm sure had no faith that Jesus would bring him back. However your right I can't prove that, but I think to say he had faith is grasping for straws. Moses did react in faith, but God gave him something before he had faith in it, and that was the point I was making. "You gave examples where the statement of the presence of faith is not stated. You have not disproved that we receive nothing from God except by faith in His Word." Graceful forget all my examples except one. Life itself both physical and spiritual God gave it to us before we had any faith. God gave us breath and God gave us His Son both were given to us outside our faith. God gave us health, He gave us prosperity (the poorest among us is richer that the richest in many countries), in many cases God gave us praying grandparents, parents, aunt and uncles, brothers and sisters that prayed for our salvation. God has given us a great nation, freedom, liberty and the right to preach His gospel. God has given us the sun to norish our planet, the moon to light our evenings, the stars to make us look skyward and wonder. God gave me two wonderful daughters when I was still without faith, from those daughters came 6 beautiful grandchildren. All that I have God has given me and much of it I recieved before I knew Him. Faith is important and I'm not downplaying faith at all. However faith has nothing if God does not allow it. Faith in God not faith in faith. EdB |

2 | A FALSE TEACHING? Yes / No | Matt 8:5 | gracefull | 93917
Hi Ed, You said... If your alive you received that life and your breath long before you had any faith. In context of my post I believe I was clear that the message that BELIEVERS or children of the covenant receive nothing from God/The Word/ the covenant apart from faith. If I was unclear on that I apologize. You said... "It would not require faith if they were cleansed, they would not be lepers. We also don't know if they went in or not, we do know only one returned in "faith" to say thank you" They were healed AS they went. They headed to the temple before they were healed. That is faith. You said... Life itself both physical and spiritual God gave it to us before we had any faith. God knew me before I was conceived in my mother's womb. That faith was present here is debatable. But Roman's 10 indicated that faith was necessary for spiritual rebirth. Romans 10:8 But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. You said... Whether faith was active in all the blessings we received before we knew Him for ourselves or not, is debatable. I tend to believe based on the scriptures cited in my previous post that faith was at work even if it was not your own. Again, I did not say it had to be OUR faith. But I am speaking of, and thought I was clear in my post but maybe not, we receive nothing from the covenant apart from faith. Be that salvation, the Holy Spirit, healing, His provision as we serve, His gifts. Let's go at this from a different angle... Tell me what part of God's covenant I CAN receive without faith. God bless |

3 | A FALSE TEACHING? Yes / No | Matt 8:5 | EdB | 93973
Graceful You said nothing of the covenant. You said we receive nothing from God without faith. That as stated is not true. We receive many things from God without faith. Pagans live, prosper, enjoy life and die all without faith. Many within the Bible had no faith yet were healed, resurrected or otherwised spared from danger, sickness, or disaster without faith. To answer your question what part of the covenant do we receive without faith. That is like saying which came first saving grace or faith in saving grace. I would say grace. Our salvation is given based on God's grace, His Holy Spirit then leads us to our faith in Jesus. The rest of the covenant is provided for us and we receive it, as we receive it through grace our faith/trust in God grows. What we receive or don't receive is still based on God's grace not our faith to desire it. While faith is essential to please God it is faith in God not faith in faith that pleases God. Faith is not a manipulator of God, it is what God rewards. For God to exist faith is not required nor would God cease from being if there was no faith. Faith is not a force it is nothing more or less than the assurance of things hoped for the conviction of things not seen. Faith is not a power nor a conductor it is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see. We are cautioned on the "hoped for" part. Here we are told not to hope for things that feed only our flesh, to insure what we hope for is of God's will not our own, and not to suppose we know better than God what is needed at what time. We are also cautioned not to seek our physical comfort but rather to seek God's kingdom with the total assurance, confidence and trust that God will do what is best for us. This is where the blend gets clouded by WOF, they want to use faith to manipulate God for their physical comfort declaring that this is what God desires for His people. They do not want any part Refiner's fire. Yet in the life of every Bible saint we see them passing through the Refinners fire. Look at the Hebrew Children of Daniel 3. They didn't have the Bible they didn't know the end. Look what they said, our God is able to save us but even if He choses not to we still will not bow to your idols. In effect they said no matter what happens here today we know our God will make all things work to our good because we love Him and are called to His purpose. Notice we don't see them praying God put out the fire, give us fire suits, make Nebuchadnezzar change his mind, send angels and sweep us away. No! I see three young men standing on the platform looking at the world for what they think may be their last time saying, God I trust you to see me through this refinners fire. What would have been the worst thing that could happen to them? That they died? No they would have gone home, to Abrahman's bosom (paradise). Yet they were spared why? For them? No they were spared as a testimony to us. As they trusted God, God moved on their behalf, just as if we trust God in faith He moves on our behalf. Death while our enemy is not final we are promised the resurrection and residence in our real home. We are merely passing through our desire should be for heavenly homeland. by doing that God is not ashamed to be called our God and He has prepared a city for us. EdB |
