Hank,Mark, etc.: because Jesus was baptized, baptism was already instituted. What were the origins of Baptism? Did it START with John (ref: "the baptism of John...et al.) or was it a Hebrew tradition at the time? | ||||||

Hi i have done a study on that . baptism by water. Baptism was given by God for the repentance of sins to John the Baptist in the wilderness, [Jn 1:33], to prepare ye the way of the Lord [ Isaiah 40:3-5]. Because the daily sacrifice had been taken away as spoken by Daniel [Dan 12]. This was the beginning of a new thing [Isaiah 43:16-20]. This scripture also spoke of the baptism of the Holy Spirit by Jesus His Son . First the natural then the Spiritual.[1 Corrin 15:46] Jesus never had a need to be baptized as he was without sin .Although He was baptized as He had to fulfill all righteousness. [math 3:15] .Jesus carried this God given revelation on with His disciples and they baptized for the repentance of sins. [John 4:2]and [Acts 19:4] Once Jesus died and was resurrected by the Holy Spirit baptism still carried on as a step of faith for the washing away of our sins [Acts 22:16]. Baptism means fully immersed as Romans 6:3 tells us that we are baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death and Galatians 3:27 says they that have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. I believe that the Lord is going to bring the baptism back as they did it in the New Testament days . Baptism is an integral part of salvation, because “faith with out works is dead .“ And baptism is a step of repentance dying to the old life and being raised anew in Christ.[2 Corrin 5:17] Also that is why Jesus asked the Scribes was the baptism of John from God or man.Mark 11:30. |

I'm not sure, but I thought I read somewhere or heard, that when Gentiles believed in the Jehovah and became Jews, baptism was used as an outward sign of their conversion. Heard anything about that? That was pre-John the Baptist days. |
