1 | What is 'the fruit of the vine'? | Matt 26:29 | RAVEN | 34673
Thank you for replying in such a positive way. And you are right Christians do not consider the thought of giving up alcohol. It is not even a factor. I used to drink a Magarita once or twice a year. And I never got drunk. And I also considered myself a good person with good morals who believed in God and in Jesus Christ as my savior. But I was not a Christian, and I knew it. But as of January 23, 2000 I obeyed they gospel and came in contact with the blood of Christ through baptism and became a Christian and have never looked back. Remember what happened to Lots wife when she looked back? A Christian doesn't have to look back because those sins are in the past and have been forgiven. And as 1John 1:7 says if we continue to walk in the light the blood of Christ cleanses us. There is no room for spliting hairs when it comes to the truth. Either you believe the bible and obey it or you don't. One of the most beautiful verses in the bible says Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Thanks again for writing and I hope we can agree again on another topic. Raven |

Greeting Raven! You wrote "I also considered myself a good person with good morals who believed in God and in Jesus Christ as my savior. But I was not a Christian, and I knew it. But as of January 23, 2000 I obeyed they gospel and came in contact with the blood of Christ through baptism and became a Christian " How does one obey the Gospel and come in contact with the blood of Christ through baptism? Please clarify this. Blessings in Jesus, Mommapbs |

Its is because of the blood of Christ that we have any hope of being saved. We come in contact with the blood of Christ through baptism. Not literally blood, but this is the obedient step to salvation that is commanded of us after one repents and confesses Christ is the Son of God. Christ said that "he that belives and is baptised shall be saved, he that does not believe shall be damned. Mark 16:16. And Jesus also said, John 3 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Being born of water is just saying baptism. Besides the following scriptures read the book of Acts. Acts 2:37-47 is the perfect example of what must happen for a person to besaved. Acts 2 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation." Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Romans 6 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, Galatians 3 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Hebrews 9 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 1 Peter 3 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him. 1 John 1 7But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. And that is obedient faith, an acting faith, and a working faith. I am sure I have left something out but I you can see how one must be obedient to the Gospel and put on their savior in baptism and thus come in contact with the blood of Christ. Again the bible is clear in this manner, but its your choice , you can believe it or not. Raven |

Raven, Mommapbs wanted me to respond to your former post; I declined, giving you the opportunity to expand and elaborate on your position. Now that you have done so, I am now in the position to say that I do not subscribe at all to the doctrinal view that the waters of baptism have any power at all to regenerate a penitent believer. The water of baptism is not the blood of Christ. The blood of Christ is the blood of Christ, and it is it that our Lord shed for our redemption. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Nothing less and nothing more. I am keenly aware of your view; I grew up in a church that held it; but emphatically I do not believe the corpus of Scripture supports it at all. Having said that, and not wishing to burden you or the forum with more and more words on the subject, a subject that has been discussed many times and at considerable length on the forum, I invite you to use the Search feature and enter "baptism" if you care to read more of what I, along with many others, have already posted on this topic. It distresses me that I must voice so strong an objection to your third post on the forum; nevertheless, I do so without personal bias toward you and take this time to bid you welcome. --Hank

This has been thoroughly discussed, from both sides of the water baptism fence in other posts (I know because I was actively involved in those posts!). Raven sounds as if he is of the same religious background as I. I have in recent months, through this forum, personal study and other debates, had to re-evaluate MANY of my belief structures. The church I grew up in has a slogan that says "we speak where the Bible speaks and are silent where the Bible is silent". This is an admirable creed but unfortunately I have found that though we said it we didn't always do it. In trying to live by that statement or principle I have had to re-think many things. One of those is baptism and salvation. I am still studying this and other issues but my aim and purpose is always to come to a fuller knowledge of the truth. In His Service Tim Sheasby |
