Hello, Yes, Proof edifies faith! It enhances, builds up, strengthens, and developes faith. Pick a definition! They all fit. Jesus asked the question that fits here. "How can you love God whom you have not seen, yet hate your brother whom you have seen?" One of the points that he was trying to make is that our belief and relationships with the provable has direct implication upon the unprovable. In simpler terms, the way we act towards what we see determines the way we act towards what we don't see. This is a point which Jesus makes time and time again in one form or another. Jesusman |

Now my friend, I think you are using a different order in the matter. What you do shows what you belief, that is, your belief is manifest in your actions. The actions, or works do not make you a believer, it is the other way. We have the faith and then we work. We read the scripture, grow in the faith, not by what we prove. Actually, we prove after we believe. Just as in John 7:17, Jesus asks them to will which I believe requires faith then they would know. Jah Bless. |

What's your point? That I haven't proven myself to be a christian because I like to provide proof in what I believe? If that's the case, then Jesus doesn't have much faith either. He provided proof that he was the Messiah on many occasions. One such passage is in John 5. Starting at about the middle of the chapter, he claims to be the messiah, then goes on to prove it by talking about John the Baptist's witness as well as the witnesses of His own miracles, God the Father, and the Scripture. In Matthew 11, John the Baptist's disciples come to Jesus seeking proof that he is the messiah. As proof, Jesus offers to them the works which he has done. These are only two examples of many that are in the New Testament where proof is given to edify faith. Paul, time and time again, gives his testimony on the road as proof for his apostleship. He also gives proof of Jesus being the Christ by telling his readers that if they don't believe him, then they can ask those who knew Jesus personally. The whole New Testament is one giant collection of proof that Jesus not only existed, but that he was who he said he was. If proof isn't needed at all for our faith, then why do we have the Bible? Okay, now we are on the same page! The proof is on the Bible! We do not need to look anywhere else! That's exactly what my point was. We do not need any scientific proof, or argue our way in scripture. take it fro what it says even if it doesn't seem to make sense. John the Baptist believed there was a messiah, he may have had some questions, that's why he sent his disciples but he started by believing. Jesus at some point refused to give any signs and says the only sign was the one in the scriptures. Our faith grows, but starts without proof. Then as we grow, it makes more sense. Again, the proof or evidence comes after! Ex 3:12, the proof came after the fact, not before. And we can continue that way until we come to teh full knowledge. I hope that if you don't find proof for what you read in the Bible, you don't stop believing! Remember, Israel in the desert saw quite a bit, yet they were filled with unbelief! So much for proof! God says there is a way, I believe Him then I see it! I don't wait to see it to believe. The Lord Bless You. |

Tuli, I agree in principle at least with your post. Faith and empirical proof don't always make good yokefellows. When we accept by faith that God is sovereign and that the Bible is his inerrant revealed word, we have no wiggle room left in which to question whether the Bible intrinsically makes sense. It does. If any part of it doesn't seem to make sense to us, we may be assured that we have a good deal of room left for growth. When one hears statements to the effect that the Bible makes little if any sense, the indictment clearly must go to him who, whether in ignorance or arrogance, says anything of the kind, not to the Bible. 'Tis a pity that so many who know so little insist on saying so much. --Hank | ||||||

Hank: I agree with you completely. Blind faith has no part in Christianity. For by grace we are saved through faith. Through faith -- but faith in what? Faith in facts. Christianity is based on fact -- the biblical and historical FACT of Christ's resurrection. We don't have to assassinate our brains in order to become Christians. On the other hand, we would have to assassinate our brains before we could believe everything that is posted on this forum. Grace to you, kalos |
