Subject: The Sons of God in Genesis 6:1-4 |
Bible Note: Blessings All, I have been reading with supreme interest all that has been posted about these passages. What a wonderful study it is indeed. First, I will not presume to know all the answers in these passages nor I hope not to sound dogmatic in what I may state to presume or suggest. I do have a question about vs.4, "There were giants on the earth in those days(a), AND ALSO AFTERWARD, when the sons of God came in to the dauthers of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown." a) "those days" is x-ref'd to: Num13:32,33 Nephilim is used in both instances. Rephaim is used to define the descendants of Goliath. 2Sam21:15-22, Gen 15:20. The Anakim were from the Rephaim? who were from the Nephilim? Long and ardusous study for those who like to find caveats. "AND ALSO AFTERWARD"... afterward of what? Post flood ? Since this chapter and the surrounding paragraphs deal with the coming of the flood. Then isnt it safe to assume that "after" the flood is being discussed also? As for Job 1 and 2: Job 1:6,7, "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the Lord said to Satan,'From where do you come?' So Satan answered the Lord and said, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it." The Lord asked Satan "from WHERE do you COME?". Does this not mean, Satan was somewhere else as opposed to the place he is now? If so, then he came from earth. If this be the case then where is he when he presents himself with the others "sons of God"? This looks to be Heaven, since they came to GOD. We know this by seeing "they came to present themselves before the Lord"...not "The Lord came to them." This is more than likely a heavenly meeting, thus, no humans? Back to Gen 6: "Those were the mightly men..." Who were those? Would they not be whom was dicussed just prior ? Those born to the women and the sons of God? I shall break for now, and will look for posts from this and continue from there. But I would like to say, the "sons of God" are looking very much like heavenly beings. As defined from the Oldest Book found by man. ...Lord dont let us convolute the story... *SHALOM* D ps: use the search tool above and type in Gen 6:4, then click on Can angels have human babies? and check out the posts made therein. |
