I've read Revelations many times. One of my favorite books! But I can't agree the the Hebrew definition of the word "shachah" is, as you believe, the difinitive way to give glory to God. God is not Hebrew. He **chose** the Hebrews as his original people. NIV Lev 26:12, Jer 7:23 (etc) Why? Certainly not because they had his favorite definition of "worship." I say original people because then Jesus came and afterwards told Paul to preach to the Gentiles. US!! And now WE are his people! Praise be to GOD! Greeks, Romans, Ethiopians! The apostles went out to tell everyone about the Glory of God! (I'm reading a second book called Jesus Freaks so just throw a bucket of cold water my way if I need to tone it down...) Are our definitions wrong? No. Just different. Cultural and ethnic differences. When Our Lady appeared to the people of Mexico did she say "No more dancing with bells on your feet?" No. If our Lord had a very particular way he wished us to worship him it would have been clearly spelled out JUST as he distinctly spelled out tents, colors, tassels, burnt offerings and incense in Exodus and Numbers. I'm imagining how you'd be worshipping if The Lord had chosen the Massai as his original people. [big smile] Lisa |

LisaMarie, Proskuneo (Strong's 4352) is the Greek word for worship. It is not the same as giving glory (doxa), tho giving glory to Him can be related to worship. We have changed the definition of worship, as well as love, the church, gentleman ... and maybe we will change what salvation means, so we think more will be saved. S |

Dear Searcher, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Brother, I agree that the definition of worship these days is terribly adulterated. Indeed, much that is called worship is nothing more that emotional pap (something lacking solid value or substance). Also, 'worship' is used where the Biblical 'praise' is more appropriate. Frankly, some of that which is called worship angers my spirit... But, worship is an attitude of heart, not just a physical posture. We don't have to be in some 'position' in order to be able to worship our God and Savior. If we begin to specify the 'perfect position,' we fall into the same category as some that say you must face a certain direction, or be at a special location, or be ministered to by a special person. In my humble opinion, it is our heart that worships God. Should our environment be free from distraction? Yes! Should our minds be free from distraction? Yes! Should we be attired appropriately (within reason :-)) and kids should not be running around unchaperoned? Yes! Order, common courtesy and reverence definitely help us find and maintain a spirit of worship. But too much (human) order or attention to physical things might lead us to that which is NOT worship toward God, but self-adoration. Balance and peace, my friend! In Christ Jesus, charis |

Charis ... sorry for the delay in my response. If you look in your seisho, see how words for worship there are. Look at Rom 12:1, etc. to see what the kanji is. We do need balance and (some) gaijins don't understand Oriental thought. S | ||||||
