1 | Are those He called always chosen? | Rom 8:30 | Morant61 | 14375
Greetings Joe! Overall, I would fully agree with you. Except on the "Openess of God" issue. I sat under Dr. Hasker in college. The issue that has lead him "astray" is not Arminianism, but a rejection of the timelessness of God. Dr. Hasker rejects the timelessness of God. He believes that any event which is known beforehand must be set in stone. He doesn't believe things are set in stone and he doesn't believe that God can know things that haven't occurred yet. I disagree with him very strongly. I believe that terms like "foreknown" are terms which help us understand what God has done, but in terms of God's essential nature are really meaningless. Since He is timeless, there really is no before (expect for a logical before.) Every time is present for Him and His knowledge is complete. I think your description of evangelism from both perspectives was very accurate and very honest. I usually don't hear Calvinist admit some of what you said. As far as cults are concerned, I'm not sure it is fair to blame their existence on Charles Finney. |

2 | Are those He called always chosen? | Rom 8:30 | Reformer Joe | 14506
Tim: Just as a clarification, I wasn't suggesting that all Arminians hold to the "openness of God," but rather that the argument cannot be an intramural one among Calvinists, since having such a strong view of God's active, sovereign decree leaves no room at all for a God who doesn't know the future. After all, we believe that God has already WRITTEN the future! --Joe! |

Hi Joe! I understood! We are very close on this point. While I don't believe that all of the future is written, I do believe that the future is present for God. So, I too cannot accept the "openness of God" position. Unfortunately, I think we are going to be seeing more and more of this kind of heresy in the future! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
