1 | Does anyone still beleive that God talks | Acts 9:4 | DocTrinsograce | 142089 | ||
It depends on exactly what you mean. God speaks to His own through His Word by the power of the Holy Spirit. Scripture tells us that man lives by every word of God (Mathew 4:4). So it is not likely that God has spoken with the same authority of scripture since the passing of the Apostles. The early church fathers believed that and this has been the orthodox position ever since. By God's sovereign design, He has given us His Word: the complete and "only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience." In Him, Doc |

Hi Doc. I think I can safely say that God not only hears our prayers, but also answers them. What this means is God still communicates with us today. I can remember a vivid instance where God spoke to my spirit by His Spirit. His voice seemed so clear, although I didn't actually hear a voice, I do believe I did hear from God. Here are the details A new job in my workplace had become available I prayed and asked the Lord, whether I should put in for this job or not. I sensed God telling me to go ahead and put in for it. I said Lord I don't want this job to bring glory to Myself. I want to be considered for this job opening only if You feel that you can use me in that position to bring Yourself glory. Besides the job payed less that the job I was currently working on, but meant that I would have the weekends off. I just felt as though I needed to stretch myself to a new work location. I thought of the possibilty of working with new people, and having them as my mission field to witness to. So I put in for the job. And I prayed to the Lord, Lord if I get this job, I will consider it Your will that You want me there. And if I don't get the job, then I will also consider it Your will that I should not be there at this time. Either way Lord, I committ this matter into Your keeping, and trust You for the results. A couple of days later, I found myself worrying about whether or not I would get this job. It was then that the Lord spoke to me. Here is what He said to me. "My child. Didn't you committ the results of this matter into My hands? Why do I find You worrying? It saddens me when I find you worrying like this, because it means that your not truly trusting Me for the results. At that point, I said. Oh Lord, please forgive me for worrying and for not trusting You completely for the results. I recommitt this matter back into Your hands. Whatever happens Lord, I will know it was Your will for me. Thank You Lord. I now had perfect peace concerning this. A few days later, I was called for a personal interview, and then the next day I was notified that I had been selected for the job out of 18 other candidates. Yes God still speaks to us today, And yes God gave me plently of doors opportunities to witness to others in my new work area. Praise God for He is good. |

I like we Brother Ed said earlier today, "Of course God speaks to us today but not to make us famous or add to the Bible or even as proof He exists God speaks to those that earnestly seek Him. When we are earnestly seeking God and God does respond His words are more precious that anything else you can imagine." I have no quarrel with that kind of "talking." The Holy Spirit is our ever present aid in properly understanding the Word of God. And -- praise the Lord -- per Hebrews 1:1-2a, "God, Who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son." Perhaps we ought to be careful how we use the word "talk" in relation to Diety, until we are clear what we mean by our terms. In Him, Doc |
