NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:22 Therefore, [unknown] tongues are [meant] for a [supernatural] sign, not to believers but to unbelievers [who might be receptive]; while prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people] is not for unbelievers but for believers. |
Subject: Have we been resisting the holy spirit? |
Bible Note: Hi Tim, Thanks for the list concerning the Holy Spirit. I will be going through the list. May I look at Isaiah 63:10 with you so that I may ask a question of you? First of all let me say that I go with the NKJ with its capitalization of Angel but not "Presence" for Isaiah 63:9. This Angel is the Holy Spirit of verse 10 for my mind. But my question is for verse 11. It talks of God's flock and says, "Where is He who put His *holy *spirit in the midst of them, who caused His glorious ARM to go at the right hand of Moses,..." My own emphasis for the word arm. Do you have any space in your belief system for the existance of a *holy *spirit, an arm of power if you will, or a finger of God? How much are you willing to translate the "who" of Ephesians 1:13 into a "which"? For that matter, how much would you be willing to make the word truth capitalized there? Isaiah 63:1 talks of "...This One who is majestic in His apparel, Marching in the greatness of His strength?" There was no man with Him; but His own arm brought salvation to Him. Isaiah 63:5 says, "I looked, and there was no *one to help, And I was astonished and there was no *one to uphold; So My own *arm brought salvation to Me; And My wrath upheld Me." How much are you open to the idea of Jesus being filled with the holy spirit, as well as being the Holy Spirit? You spoke of the things being done by a Person, not just a force or power. Do you have room in your belief system for the Person AND ALSO, IN ADDITION, a force, or power, or arm, or finger, or some other gentle spirit, or "it"? Just food for thought as I respect your opinion. Remember that my study in the word of God is one that is in progress as is everyone's, and I am glad that God loves us all wherever we are in our walk with Him. From the heart, Ray |
