NASB | 1 Corinthians 1:10 ¶ Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 1:10 ¶ But I urge you, believers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in full agreement in what you say, and that there be no divisions or factions among you, but that you be perfectly united in your way of thinking and in your judgment [about matters of the faith]. |
Bible Question:
"In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, and in all things charity." Do creeds cause division? Or do they deal with the fact that division already exists? One could argue that pre-existing division is the reason for -- not the result of -- statements of belief. EdB, Reformer Joe, John Reformed and whosoever will join this discussion: What do you think? Division and creeds -- which is cause and which is effect? Consider what John Reformed said in his recent post: "I believe it is important to remember that our creeds arose in answer to those who were attemting to pervert sound doctrine." The intent of the creeds was not to pervert sound doctrine, but rather to preserve it. Radioman2 |
Bible Answer: All in this debate "In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, and in all things charity." Sounds good but is that what Jesus commanded? Creeds are the result of man viewing his interpretation of the Bible as being more correct than someone else's therefore breeding divison. First he violates the scripture that says we should prefer our brother. Second he has let pride get int eh way of unity. Third he ignores the command to be a peace maker. This all occurs even when we know there is no unresolved conflict within the Bible. Therefore with enough effort all conflict should be resolved as commanded by Christ. EdB |
