Bible Question:
I read 17:3. I am with peace with that.. But I al so read the other passages that seem to be in direct conflict like.. ""For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses (Matthew 6:14-15)." That passage suggests that you, yourself, will not be forgiven if you forgive others regardless of remorse. |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Matt 5:21-24, 6:14-15, 18:15-35; Luke 17:1-4 ... If we sense/ know that we have offended, we must initiate the action to ask for forgiveness. If we don't ask for forgiveness, there are consequences. We must forgive no matter how many times we are offended. Add "love ... does not take into account a wrong" (1 Cor 13:5). If we don't forgive, there are consequences. If we are offended, we need to go to our brother, in private, and asking them to repent. If they don't repent, there are consequences. It is being at peace with each other, so that we can be at peace with God. |
