661 | Dying to self | Rom 12:1 | prayon | 108898
Greetings Cheryl, I really like the way the poem describes being a living sacrifice. It is definitly not an easy thing to do. We can be so "fleshy" at times no matter how hard we try not to be. Being a living sacrifice is something that we need to work on daily. Many people think that giving of their time or money is being a living sacrifice but as the poem states it goes much deeper than that. We must give of ourselves in every aspect of our life. What you are talking of, the speaking out, the taking a stand, etc is part of being a living sacrifice. We are told to come out of our comfort zone and stand for the gospel against the persecution that the bible warns us that will come. Doing that is also being a living sacrifice. We are sacrificing our comfort for the cause of the gospel. prayon |

662 | finding my calling | Rom 12:1 | prayon | 141370
Greetings, I think greentwig left out one very important way - seek guidance from your pastor. I also believe that when God gives us our calling He causes us to have a love for that thing. What do you love to do? Remember though God will reveal it to you at the perfect time. Many times we know that we are called to something and we strike out immediately to do that thing and then end up failing. We fail because God had not finished preparing us to take our place. So be talk to your pastor but also have patience. It will be revealed to you when you are totally prepared to step into your calling. prayon |

663 | What does "a measure of faith" mean? | Rom 12:3 | prayon | 8984
Andrew, a measure of faith is just that - a measurement of faith. The measure of faith should be understood as the same as "gifts that differ according to the grace given to us" (v. 6) and corresponds to Paul's similar statements about gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. |

664 | Should we submit to a wicked leader | Rom 13:1 | prayon | 124703
Greetings totoy, There are 5 options you have when you are in that situation. They are: Options when Disagree with God-ordained authority 1) Obey - God has told us to submit to the authority that is placed over us. We should hav a heart to obey. If those above us are not living for God then we should still serve in every way that we can righteously serve. 2- Obey with contention - There is never a reason to do this – remember the priinciple of seed time and harvest 3- Disobey – We should disobery ONLY when there is a Clear and Direct violation of scripture 4- Abstain – ok to disobey if it is a direct violation of my conscious then you request to be dismissed. 5- Leave – Only when God says and you are directed by the Holy Spirit to do so. Hope this helps. prayon |

665 | IfGodMakesPeopleJealous,Why is it Wrong? | Rom 13:13 | prayon | 62584
Greetings Lionstrong, Jealousy is a sin. James 1:13-17 states that No one should say God is tempting me. Each one is tempted by his own evil desire. Desire gives way to sin and sin gives birth to death. So, God cannot be tempted with evil, nor does God tempt any man with evil. God will never, Himself, place any evil thing on man because no evil thing can come from God. prayon
666 | What is the account we will give? | Rom 14:12 | prayon | 20340
In verses 9-12 Paul was explaining why we must not be judgemental of others because none of us exists in isolation. We belong to each other and need each other, yet there is one time when we will stand alone and that is before the judgement seat of God. For "each of us will give an account of himself to God". (V. 12) If nothing else gets us thinking about how we act and what we speak this should certainly do so. But why are we to do this? Christians will not have to answer for our sins because we are already forgiven when Christ died on the cross for us. Matt. 12:36-37 tells us that on the day of judgement we must give account for every careless word we have spoken. "By your words we will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned". We will also be held accountable for how we spend our money. Nothing in life so mirrors our life as what we do with our money. Where our treasure is our heart will be also. You can not serve both God and money. (Matt. 6:21,24b) In Matt. 25:14-30 and Luke 19:12-27 the servants had to give accountibility for the talents their master had given them. We are also responsible for the talents God has given us. "Faith without works is dead". Did we use what God has given us or did we waste it? For this we are accountable to Him. |

667 | What does the Bible say RE:gambling? | Rom 14:22 | prayon | 165454
Greetings Saltoftheearth, I agree with what the blue letter bible site says. Gambling is not a sin however, sin does enter in if you let the gambling rule your life. For instance drinking alcohol is not a sin but it becomes a sin when you overindulge and become drunk because is takes your eyes off of what is important - Jesus. Sin can also come in in my opinion if winnnings are not tithed upon since it is a type of income. I also agree with Wild Irish Shoot - if you feel convicted not to go then don't go. Jesus has a reason for putting that conviction in your heart. Hope this helps. prayon |

668 | Did Jesus eat unclean foods? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 3256
To my knowledge no he did not eat "unclean" foods. Jesus was a Jew and therefore followed the Jewish laws set down by God in the Old Testament. If He would of not followed the Jewish customs and laws he would not of been able to have the impact that He had. I am not sure in where you are referring to in Mark. If you are referring to the dream in which Paul had that was after Jesus assecended in to heaven. Hope I helped. God Bless. |

669 | How much submitting must a woman do? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 11641
I agree with both Debbie and There. If she is under physical abuse she should leave, even if the abuse is not bad - it will get worse. One problem that women run into in this situation is the apology afterwards. The man ususally always promises to never let it happen again, he loves her so much. He then treats her very well for a short time and she loves him so she wants to believe him. She accepts his apology and the whole cycle begins over again. Each cycle will get a little bit worse. As was said earlier she prpbably won't have a lot of friends because of the confidentuality issue mentioned but also because the husband won't have as much control and he needs to maintain firm control. It is very hard for a woman to walk away from someone she loves and feels truly needs her, especially if she is a Christian and honors her covenant with the man. However Christ would not want her to stay. One more thing I would add on emotional abuse. I agree with the statement Debbie made that if the woman is a Christian she has an advantage. However, in this type of situation her self confidence will be continually attacked and it is extremely hard to maintain a high opinion of oneself. Her having self confidence is what is in question in the relationship. The man does not want her to have any. He doesn't want her to think that she can live without him. I can testify to these things because I went through a abusive relationship and had to leave. It was very, very hard. If this woman or you would like you can contact me at prayon@spocom.com. I would be most happy to "talk" to her. prayon |

670 | IN 1Cor.3:15 Is it the person or the wor | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 13660
The works. On judgement day Christ will evaluate each person's contribution to the life of the church and will reveal the sincerity of each person's work. God will determine whether or not they have been faithful to Jesus' instructions. Good work will be rewarded, unfaithful or inferior work will be discounted. "The builder will be saved but only as through fire" means that unfaithful workers will be saved but like people escaping from a burning building. All their possessions or accomplishments will be lost. (exert from the Life Application Bible).
671 | Is sex between singles a sin? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 17515
I would like to refer you to this question asked by "forrest" and answered on Apr 4th: What unmarried sexual acts are sinful? The question reveals a frequent misunderstanding of the role and use of laws, rule, and instructions. You are seeking a rule, so it is helpful to look at the role of rules. 1 Timothy 1:9 says that the law is not made for a righteous person but rather for the lawless and rebellious. While such instruction is still useful to guide and instruct (see 2 Timothy 3:16 and Matthew 5:17-19), it is intended to guide and instruct us into recognizing our sin, the need of a savior, and the offer of grace of Christ. Such instruction leads us to a personal encounter with a living God and a real relationship with that God in the person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is tasked with guiding us in all truth and being our counselor and helper. See John 14.15ff, 15.26-16.15. When this relationship is established between created and creator, we are no longer under the law of stone but rather under the law of the Spirit and of grace. See Romans 6:14ff, Romans 7:4-6. Now this law of grace and law of the Spirit is much more demanding than the law of stone and its righteousnoess is greater than the righteousness of the law (pharisees). As God dwells within us He transforms us so that His desire becomes our desire, His longing our longing, His heart our heart. We learn of Him and hear Him through His word and hungry and expectant reading and "chewing" or meditation on His word (scripture) and through prayer (speaking and listening), worship (admiration of who He is and expressing our love for Him), and fellowship (He works through His people to reveal Himself). All this being said your question still has very practical aspects. As in ," My boyfriend/girlfriend and I are getting serious and are considering marriage but have not yet decided. There is tremendous pressure to move into areas of physical intimacy which I am not sure are pleasing to God. What guidance is there in scripture as to how far is too far?" But once the question is phrased this way you see that the real issue is not what you can do, but rather what is pleasing to God. If you are asking this question, the answers are much more apparent. Scripture clearly shows that God intended and created our sexuality as a means of establishing and maintaining a committed life long realtionship between a man and woman as a type/example of His desire to have eternal realtionship with us. God even uses the image of the returning Christ as a bridegroom and the church as His bride. Why would you involve yourself in any physical activity which creates a physiological yearning which can not righteously be satisfied (i.e. sexual intercourse outside of marriage). Even other sexual acts involve such intimacy and personal contact as to be violative of the other person (and God's intention) absent a committed life-long relationship (marriage). If I had to carve an answer in stone (God desires to do so in your heart) any intimate sexual contact is violative of God's intention of sexual (and thus spiritual--see 1 Corinthians 6.15-20)realtions. This would include, but not be limited to oral sex, manual sex, masturbation, and "feeling" or petting of the body parts of another. If the relationship is ready for these things, why is not ready for commitment. Do not buy the lie that you need to test before you buy. It is God who makes a proper spouse and it is a lifelong process. |

672 | What are the Spiritual gifts? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 18430
Greetings Alex, There are a variety of gifts. These include the gifts of healing, wisdom, discernment, knowledge, teacher, faith, tounges and the interpretation of tounges, prophecy, giving and many, many more. You can read about spiritual gifts in 1Cor 12 and 13. There are also questionaires at your local Christian book store that can help you determine what yours are. prayon
673 | What is meant by praying in the spirit? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 59388
Greetings Mike, mbooker gave a good answer. Praying in the spirit is letting go and letting the Holy Spirit do the praying. When I don't know what to pray the Holy Spirit does. Praying in the spirit is just that - putting self on the back burner and allowing the Holy Spirit inside of you to come out and pray what needs to be prayed. prayon
674 | Please explain 1 Corinthians 8:1-3? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 129625
The apostle here is talking about the danger of having a high conceit of knowledge. When we have too much knowledge we can become puffed up and proud. He is warning us that too much knowledge can cause us to be lead away from the teachings of the Christ. prayon |

675 | Is Extreme Metal appropriate? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 144564
Greetings delight in light, I agree with what the others have said. We are instructed to be in line with whatever is true and nobel and right. There is a saying that I truly believe: WHATEVER YOU GIVE YOUR ATTENTION TO YOU CONFORM TO. WHATEVER YOU CONFORM TO YOU BECOME. Even though you truly believe that the words are having no effect on you - you are being deceived. The bad part is that once you realize it there will be such a distance between you and God that it will be hard to repair. Satan works in very subtle ways. I work with an organization that puts on Christian concerts. I have worked at a lot of "extreme metal" Christian concerts. Believe it or not I have even been in the mosh pits at these concerts. There are quite a few bands that I am sure you would enjoy listening to that have positive lyrics to them that honor and praise our Savior. May I recommend Dead Poetic, Norma Jean or the Chariot? Remember seek and you will find. prayon |

676 | Corinthians vs. Isaiah | 1 Cor 2:9 | prayon | 146981

677 | Why did my mom die? | 1 Cor 2:9 | prayon | 175041
Greetings Vince, Some years ago I lost my best friend and her 5 year old son to a drunk driver. I was angry and suffered a long time because I just couldn't understand why she and her son died so young. One day God finally revealed this to me. He reminded me that He is omnipotent. He can see what lies ahead for each of us. He also reminded me that I did not know what pain and suffering would of laid ahead for her in her life that because of her death she is now spared of. As a nurse I will assume that there were medical problems that caused you to go home to live with her and that she was in the hospital for. Rest in the fact that she is now spared from any further physical suffering and she rests in the arms of Jesus where there is no suffering or pain but only pure joy. In every situation I always try to look for a blessing even when it seems that there are none. However, I have found that if I look hard enough there is always one there - there is one in this situation too. with Christ's love, prayon |

679 | Steward of the mysteries of God? | 1 Cor 4:1 | prayon | 1957
A steward is an overseer of something, it can also be a person who is entrusted with the caretaking of something that is not his own whether it is a house, a task, business affairs or in a metaphorical sense in relation to the divine mysteries as referred to in 1 Corinthians 4:1. The mysteries you are referring to are the secrets of the bible that are hidden or beyond human understanding. There are many things that we are told about in the bible that have not happened such as the time of Jesus return. It is all of these mysteries that are told of in the bible we are are "stewards" over.
680 | Attitude? | 1 Cor 4:1 | prayon | 2033
I believe we should have an attitude of awe, respect, thanksgiving, and joyous celebration. God's mysteries are His words to us. They are what our salvation is based on. We should care for all of His word deeply, holding it close to our hearts. We should do our best to see that it is not twisted or put down. We should guard what has been entrusted to us with our lives if need be. We should be ready to share at all times as He instructed us to do. We should be stewards over His word as He would do Himself.
