624 | How can Christians listen to this? | Acts 5:34 | prayon | 7633
People listen to this junk because that is what they want to hear. People today are looking for the easy way out of everything. This is what they are given by some. Who wants to pray unceasingly and fast to get rid of a trial? Why not just go to see this preacher and let him pray and get rid of it for you? Much easier. And if He can do this he must truly be from God. We therefore must listen and believe what he is saying because if he is from God then what he says must be from God. He would surely know the truth. Me? I am just an insignificant person - I could surely be wrong. These people offer the easy way out of difficult circumstances. They give them false hope. The more local "churches" give them love. One of our problems in the church today is that we tend not to show true love to all. He hasn't showered. He is wearing raggedly clothes. He doesn't have the same color skin as me. Better not get too close to them or get to involved. Can't hang around and talk - have to get to the restaurant to eat. How many Christians take these people home and cloth them and feed them. People need their physical needs met. How many Christians do you see going door to door as strongly as the Mormons or Jehovahs Witness? They are the ones that go out on the streets and show true love to those who are homeless and haven't showered, the ones who don't look like them. They fulfill the physical needs and then go into the spiritual needs. That is why those religions are growing at the rate they are. They are giving the people what they want and need. And since God is love these people must be from God. I will learn what they teach and believe it. I kinda got off track, sorry. How can that be you ask. They get caught up in the pomp and circumstance. They do not so much "love him" as they love the show that he put on. Every one else is cheering and clapping and they get caught up in that emotion. Satan uses that to lure them in to believing what they hear. Many disguise their words. They say things in different ways to mask what they are truly saying. It is almost as they are hypnotized by the preacher. |

625 | Why Phillip not lay hand Samaritans? | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145009
Greetings, Yes the baptism of the Holy Spirit is different from receiving salvation. When you are baptized with the Holy Spirit you receive the power of the Holy Spirit (Act 1:8). Power is transated 'dunamis' in Greek which means strength power, ability. So being baptized with the Spirit gives the believer a power or ability that he did not have before. This power ia a gift from God (Luke 11:13; Acts 8:20) and is available to ALL believers who ask for it. It is used in all sorts of ways - for furthering the gospel (Acts 1:8), for prayer (Rom 8:26), for comfort (Acts 9:31), ability to speak what needs to be heard (Luke 12:12), helper (John 14:26), to speak in tongues (Acts 2:4), and joy (Rom 14:17). Peter was an evangelist. He hasd the gift of healings and working of miracles. As to why he didn't lay his hands on them John Gills Exposition of the bible puts it this way "Philip; who though he had these gifts, yet had not a power to lay on hands, and thereby convey them unto others; he perceived that this was purely apostolical". Hope this gives you a better understanding. If you have more questions feel free to ask. prayon |

626 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145083
Greetings, I don't know if recommended is the word - I think maybe choice is a better word. Each believer has a choice to accept the gift of God or say no to it. I personally think that all believers should ask God for it. Why would any one not want what God is offering to them? And why would someone want to have only "a piece of the pie when they can have the whole thing". I have known people who were "baptized" with the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands and I know people who were baptized through just prayer. The gift is just as available now as it was then. God is the same today, as He was yesterday. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when you truly become filled with the Spirit. Please feel free to ask any questions you have. prayon |

627 | What is eunuch and his job? why call enu | Acts 8:36 | prayon | 51376
Greetings, In addition to what jlpangilinan stated, eunuchs, who were ususally incapacitated in some way were appointed to guard harems found in all the royal palaces of Egypt, Babylon, Persia, and Ethiopia. Eunuch's, who were emasuculated and deprived of their virility, were safe with the charge of wives, concubines, and the female apartments of the palace. The king, in the Persian palaces gave commands to the women through the Eunuch's and thus kept men at a distance. Daniel and his companions were possible mutilated so as to become eunuchs of the Babylonian king. Prisoners of war were often made eunuchs. The Euthiopian, although a eunuch, was a great man who rode in a chariot and had many attendents. As chamberlain to the queen of Ethiopia, he had charge of all her treasures. So the Ethiopian and a few eunuchs of the OT period may have been un-mutilatedmen. Potiphar, for example, is spoken of as a "eunuch", or as the Hebrew implies, an "officer", but he was a married man with a child. Sometimes eunuch is synomymous with cupbearer. Although eunuchs became important persons, aquiring position and power, their acquistion did not remove the sense of degradation and loss. The barbarous practice of self-mutilation an mutilation of others, prevalent throughout the Orient, carried with it serious religious disabilites. The practice was abominable to the Jews as a people (Lev 22:23-25). Eunuchs were regarded as dry and useless wood. The Law excluded eunuchs from public worship for two reasons. First, because self-mutilation was often performed in honor of a heathen god. Second, because a maimed creature of any kind was deemed unfit for God's service (Lev 21:21; 22:24). Later this ban was removed (Isaiah 56:4,5). prayon |

630 | What did Antioch look like? | Acts 13:14 | prayon | 130735
Greetings, Antioch, the third largest city in the province, was a important city of commerce that was located on the Orontes River and was on the east-west highway that ran from Jerusalem to Rome. The city itself, which became a Roman colony in 25 BC, was a city of great splendor and influence. The city could be considered a melting pot. There was a large population of Jews but was also inhabited by Greeks, Romans, Syrians, and possibly others. Hope this helps. prayon

632 | tithing | Acts 13:39 | prayon | 65217
Greetings and welcome! I disagree with jlpangilinan totally. Tithing is just as applicable today as it was in the OT. There are many, many comments on tithes if you will go to the search box and type in "tithes". EdB is very much correct. You must find a home church. By the way your question is worded I think that you are in the process of doing that. Continue to pray that God will lead you to the place where He would have you to be and I know that He will. As for where to pay your tithes, pray about it and if it is His will for you to give it to the radio station until you find your home church He will give you a peace about it. If you still question it and don't have that peace then it is not where God would have you to put it. Hope I have helped. prayon |

633 | Can one be saved by just repenting alone | Acts 16:1 | prayon | 60452
Greetings gsuslentme, 1John 1:9 tells us that if we confess our sins, He who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness. Romans 10:9 again tells us "if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved!" None of us deserve His grace and mercy, we are all sinners, and any one sin is just as bad as any other sin. For example the sin of lying is just as bad as the sin of murder. I don't know what your "tremendous" sin is but I can assure you that in God's eyes it is no worse than mine. So no matter what your "tremendous" sin our God is a merciful and gracious God and if you ask He will forgive. We are so blessed that He does not deal with us according to our sins nor repay us for our iniquities (v10). When we ask Him for forgiveness for our sins He tells us in Psa 103:12 that he will remove our transgressions from us as far as the east is from the west, and then in Heb 8:12 He tells us that He will remember our sins no more. When you ask for forgiveness for your sins with Jesus it is as if they had never taken place. They have been totally wiped away. Eph 2:8 tells us that by grace we have been saved through faith, and this is not our own doing; it is a gift from God. In John 3:16 He give us the promise that who ever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.So the answer to your question is Yes. All you do is ask for God's forgiveness and proclaim that you believe and you don't move on to be a Christian - you ARE a Christian! If you want to be forgiven and turn you life to God I ask you to say this prayer "Oh, God, I know I am a sinner. Right now I repent and ask for forgivenness for all my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, rose from the grave, and is alive forever. I open the door to my heart and life and I receive Jesus Christ as my Savior. I want to follow Him as Lord of my life. Thank you for saving me. Amen" It is that simple. As for your question about baptism. Getting baptized does not save one's life. You are only saved when you pray a prayer similar to the one above. Baptism is a physical act that one can (and should) do. It symbolizes the cleansing away of the sins. The water symbolizes washing away the "dirtiness of sin". If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to ask. May God Bless you in the journey you are about to begin. prayon |

635 | The significance of Jesus' Baprism? | Acts 19:4 | prayon | 64915
Greetings danielf and welcome to the forum! There were several reasons for Christ's baptism. First, it was His first identification with us as sinners. Although he had no sin, He took our sins upon Himself on the cross. In addition, it was a symbolism of His death. The baptism was the first thing that pointed to His death on the cross. Next, It marked the change from His private life to His public ministry. Third, it was annointing for service. As you suspected it did have something to do with the OT practice of priests being annointed with oil before beginning their priesthood. When the priests were annointed with oil it was a symbol of the Holy Spirit being given to them in a special way. Christ's baptism was His annointing of the Holy Spirit. Although He was filled with the Holy Spirit since birth, it provided a special annointing for His public ministry. The Holy Spirit must have also imparted a special joy to Jesus bringing an unspeakable consciousness of His nearness to God and God's pleasure in Him. The baptism also proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah. The dove decended upon Him from heaven and remained there and a voice declared from heaven "This is my Son, the beloved, with whom I am well pleased". It also fulfilled OT prophecy, see Is 11.2. Hope this helps. prayon |

636 | Why couldn't the sons of Sceva exorcise? | Acts 19:16 | prayon | 8831
In Ephesus many engaged in exorcism and occult practices to make money. Sceva's son's were included in these. They were impressed by Paul's ability to cast out demons by the power God gave to them. They knew that Pauls power was much more powerful because it came from the Holy Spirit. They wanted this amount of power also. In verse 13 we notice that these exocists saod, "I adjure you through the Jesus that Paul proclaims". They did not believe in Jesus and therefore were not saved. Unless you are saved you can not have the power of the Holy Ghost at work within you. Therefore you do not have God's power to heal. prayon

638 | what is the book of Romans all about? | Romans | prayon | 13658
Romans is the most comprehensive guide to the structure of the Christian faith. It is the longest and generally regarded as the most important of Paul's letters. It's purpose was to give the Romans a sample of his message before he arrived in Rome. The basis of the book is what to believe and how to believe. Paul clearly sets forth the foundations of the Christian faith and gives clear, practical guidelines for the believer. It includes teaching on sin, salvation, growth, and God's sovereignty. prayon
639 | How should a Christian view the Old Test | Romans | prayon | 92711

The death and resurrection of Jesus proved that it was no new idea that someone came up with but that the old testament promises were to come true. God's raising Jesus from the dead also authenticated the gospel.
