681 | Gambling reference on the bible | 1 Cor 4:2 | prayon | 175154
Greetings dyustlucky and welcome to the forum! I can not find any mention of gambling in the bible. However, the bible refers to addictions throughout the bible. Gambling is a well documented addiction. Addictions are inevitably placed before God which is a sin. Also with this tpye of addiction finances come to mind. We are commanded by God to be good stewards of our finances. I do not believe that gambling falls under being good stewards. Here are some scriptures that deal with gambling: Gen 3:19 2Thes 3:10 2Corin 12:14 1Cor 6:12; 10:31 Col 3:2,5,6 Rom 12:1 Exo 20:15,17 Hope this helps. prayon |

682 | What does God say about lesbians? | 1 Cor 6:9 | prayon | 66150
Greetings Protestant, "Thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is an abomination." (Lev 18:22) If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman both of them have sone what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." Lev 20:13 Whether it is man with man or woman with woman there is no difference. God clearly states here that to Him it is detestable and an abomination (which is one of the strongest words God uses). But as Gloryrain states although God hates the sin He still loves the sinner. prayon |

683 | GOD and Paul | 1 Cor 7:1 | prayon | 172929
Greetings corin, Paul had been speaking what the Lord revealed to him prior to this statement. This time however he states "I (not the Lord) say to the rest of you". The directions he was about to give Jesus had not spoken directly about or was there anything written in the scriptures that addressed the question he had been asked, However we need to remember that the Spirit lived in Paul and it would probably be a good assumption that he was speaking from divine inspiration (1Co 7:6 But I speak this according to permission, not according to commandment). Indeed marriage is a great blessing to mankind. Our nature is fleshly and marriage can protect us from the sins of lust and fornication - there lies part of the blessing! And No! NO! and NO again - our spirituality is not determined by our marital status. Hope this helps. prayon |

684 | can you divorce from lack of love | 1 Cor 7:10 | prayon | 19315
Greetings cowslips, "To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. (1Cor 7:10-11) And Mark 10:11-12 tells us that if either spouse divorces their husband/wife and marries another they commit adultry. Matthew 5:32 tells us, however, that if fornication is the cause the above does not apply. prayon

687 | Staying together before marriage. | 1 Cor 8:9 | prayon | 128058
Greetings Jeremy, I agree with the others - but I wanted to add another verse that I believe is important to consider: Mat 5:27-28 "You have heard that it was said, Never commit adultery. But I can guarantee that whoever looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery in his heart." You don't have to commit the act of fornication to have commited the sin - thoughts of fornication are sin in the eyes of our Lord. I also want to make an observation. Since you thought the question important enough to ask on the forum could it possibly be that your heart is convicting you that it it wrong? prayon |

689 | that she may show reverence as do] the a | 1 Cor 11:10 | prayon | 110717
Greetings mommapbs,The reason that women were told to wear coverings on their head was because in the Corinth culture prostitutes had to shave their head. Once they were saved they had to wear coverings on their heads so they would not be advertising that they were prostitutes. because of the angels; various are the senses given of these words, some taking them in a proper, others in a figurative sense: some in a proper sense of angels, and these either good or bad. Tertullian (e) understands them of evil angels, and that a woman should cover her head in time of worship, lest they should lust after her; though much rather the reason should be, lest they should irritate and provoke lust in others: but it is better to understand them of good angels, who attend the assemblies of the saints, and observe the air and behaviour of the worshippers; wherefore women should cover their heads with respect to them, and not give offence to those pure spirits, by an indecent appearance: it is agreeable to the notions of the Jews, that angels attend public prayers, and at the expounding of the word; they often speak (f) of an angel, äîîåðä òì äúôìåú "that is appointed over prayers". 690 | Is physical communion needed? | 1 Cor 11:23 | prayon | 165706
Greetings and welcome to the forum! Yes. In verse 25 it says "Do this in remembrance of Me". Verse 26 goes on to say that each time we take communion we proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. In v 33 Paul says "when you come together" which tells us that they were to do so in the future, not just the one time that Paul was doing it with them. The bible, however, does not tell us how often to partake of the Lords supper and different denominations have different viewpoints on how often it should be done. Hope this helps. prayon |

691 | Weekly Communion? | 1 Cor 11:25 | prayon | 4255
There is no mention in the bible on how often we should partake of the Lord's Supper or Communion. Just as there is many different views as to what you are partaking of, (ie., for catholics the elements become the blood and body of Christ, for Lutherans they take on the characteristics, for Presbyterians they have no physical changes but have spiritual changes and for the Baptists it is all symbolic) different religions interpret how often you should partake of it. Sorry I couldn't give you a more definitive answer. prayon |

To do this go to the upper right corner to "quick search" and type in "tongues" then repeat the same for "Holy Spirit". There has been so much conversation on both. If you still have any questions please feel free to ask. Blessings, prayon |

695 | Are the gifts of the spirit for today? | 1 Cor 12:7 | prayon | 8735
Yes they are all for today. Many people have dimissed the gifts of the spirit, because they have not understood the value and significance of the gifts. Those people deprive themselves and those who they influence of many blessings. 1Cor 12:7-10 lists the nine spiritual gifts, one being tongues. Throughout the history of the Church there is a record of believers who exercised the gift of speaking in tongues, including such men as John Wesley, Charles Finney and D.L. Moody. There is also much documentation of healings today. All of these gifts are the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is just as active today as he was at Pentecost. |

697 | Should we ask God for the gift of tongue | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111618
Yes. Mark 16:17 says that "these signs will follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast our devils, and they shall speak with new tongues...." In other words if you believe you can have the gift of tongues. Acts 2 tells us that as soon as the people were filled with the Holy Spirit they began speaking in tongues, not some of the believers but all the believers (v.4). Tongues is for all believers and is a sign of being filled with the Holy Ghost. In all 5 cases of the baptism of the Holy Ghost in Acts ( Acts 2,8,9,10, and 19) every time the initial evidence of being filled with the Spirit was speaking in tongues. Kalos was right when he said that some gifts are given to different people. Tongues to be used in public is not for everyone. That gift is only for a few. prayon |

698 | prayon Did some not rec the Holy Spirit | 1 Cor 12:11 | prayon | 111822
Searcher, Act 2:2-4: "Suddenly, a sound like a violently blowing wind came from the sky and filled the whole house where they were staying. Tongues that looked like fire appeared to them. The tongues arranged themselves so that one came to rest on each believer"(not apostle). "And they were all filled of the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Here is a visible sign of the gift they were to receive. They saw cloven tongues, like as of fire (Acts 2:3), and it sat - ekathise, not they sat, those cloven tongues, but he, that is the Spirit (signified thereby), rested upon each of them, as he is said to rest upon the prophets of old (MHCC) If tongues was not the initial sign I am curious what was? What do you think Simon saw that convinced him that the Holy Spirit was given? Acts 9: NO it does not say that he spoke immediately in tongues, however, the majority of the places in the bible state that "the Holy Spirit came to them, and they began to talk in other languages" (Act 19:6) " Act 10:45-47 All the believers who were circumcised and who had come with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured on people who were not Jewish. They heard these non-Jewish people speaking in other languages and praising God. Then Peter said, "No one can refuse to baptize these people with water. They have received the Holy Spirit in the same way that we did." Act 19:6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came to them, and they began to talk in other languages and to speak what God had revealed. In all these instances (Acts 2,10, 19) all state that they were baptized with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues. Therefore it is probable that Paul spoke in tongues when he was baptized with the Holy Spirit or it would be a violation of the Principle of Context in bible interpretation (Knowing Scriptue by R. E. Sproul). Upon baptism the Holy Spirit enters you but you receive a measure of the Holy Spirit in the new birth but you receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 8 shows us that the 2 baptisms do not happen at the same time in most cases. They are 2 seperate entities. prayon |

Searcher: John 20:22: Albert Barnes Notes on the Bible ". In this case the act of breathing was used to represent the nature of the influence that would come upon them, and the source of that influence" John Gills Expo on the Bible: "but this breathing on them, and the words that attended it, were a symbol, pledge, and confirmation, of what they were to receive on the day of Pentecost". 4:8: Peter had been present in the upper room and received the Holy Spirit there on the day of Pentecost. 4:31 - Gills: and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost; with the gifts of the Holy Ghost, even with extraordinary ones, such as speaking with divers tongues, as before on the day of Pentecost; see Act_2:4 and this was the case not only of the apostles, but of the other ministers of the word, and it may be of the whole church: John Wesley's explanatory notes: Act 4:31 - They were all filled - Afresh; and spake the word with boldness - So their petition was granted. 9:17 - Paul received the Holy Spirit when Ananias laid hands on him. 13:9 - Principle of first context - look at the scriptures before and after. This just states that he was filled not that he had just gotten filled. 13:52 - ? The Holy Spirit was still with them. your question? Eph 5:18 - True communion with God is not induced by drunkeness, but by the Holy Spirit. Paul is teaching that we should always be under the influence of the Holy Spirit by letting the Word control our lives rather than alochol. CONTINUALLY, adv. 1. Without pause or cessation; unceasingly; as, the ocean is continually rolling its waves on the shore. (Webster's Dictionary) The verses you are referring to in Luke were still OT. Receiving the Holy Ghost under the Old Covenant differs from receiving the Holy Ghost under the New Covenant. Acts 2:4 - refer to previous answer prayon |

Searcher, I do believe that when God makes a promise to believers it is for everyone who is a believer. Do you cast out demons in His name? Yes I have. Do I lay hands on the sick and the recover? Yes I have Do I pick up serpents? If by serpents you mean snakes? Yes I have - Ever heard of the Rattlesnakes at Silver Springs in Orlando, FL? I have also walked up and took bones out of guard dogs mouths that the owners say should of killed me. Do I drink deadly poisons? To my knowledge I have not. But I know that I have eaten things that should of made me very sick, it did other people, but it did not bother me. prayon |
