562 | Can you tell me where was jesus for thos | Luke 23:46 | prayon | 144779
Greetings Ali123 and welcome to the forum! You ask some very good questions, those points can be confusing as the bible does not state in exact words. Here is what is believed to of occured. In Luke 23:46 Jesus was offering up His human soul to God without blemish. He handed it over to the Father - no one took His life from Him. After Jesus gave up His spirit He went to paradise. This is why Jesus could say to the thief "today you will be with Me in paradise". Paradise is easier to understand if you go to Luke 16:22-27. This passage talks about Abraham's bosum which is also believed to be paradise. It was here that Jesus, as the saying goes, took the keys to hell. When He left there He saw Mary. He told her Touch me not for I have not yet ascended to my Father. In the time between seeing Mary and Thomas it is believed that He went to present the prverial keys to His Father and then returned to earth where after 40 days He ascended to sit at the right hand of His Father. There are other theories such as Mary was not allowed to touch Jesus because she had faith that it was Him and Thomas was allowed because he didn't. I hope this helps your understanding some. prayon |

565 | desipel dont recognice JESUS ,before af | Luke 24:36 | prayon | 41255
Greetings true believer, They didn't believe because they were not expecting it. Although Jesus had repeatedly told His disciples that He ould rise again after 3 days, the disciples either gave His words a symbolic meaning or completely rejected them as something impossible to understand. Never had it occured to them to find any such prophecy in the Old Testament. John says in John 20:9 that they still did not understand from scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead. The disciples thought that Jesus was the one who would redeem Isreal, but not by dying. They believed that He would miraculously overturn all opposition and display His divine power to the world by claiming the throne of His ancestor King David and reigning from Jerusalem over an Israel freed from Roman rule and regenerated to serve God. They had believed in Him, they had left all to follow Him. But now He was gone. The crucifixion seemed a cruel disillusionment. They were perplexed and confused. That is why when He appeared to them after He rose from the dead they did not realize it was Him. prayon |

566 | writer of John,date, purpose | John | prayon | 34085
Greetings Iquest, the book of John was written by John to prove conclusively that Jesus is the Son of God amd that all who believe in Him will have eternal life. John was written from a theologian point of view. My reference says that it was written after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD but before John's exile to the island of Patmos. Therefore it was probably written about 85-90 AD. John presents Jesus as the Divine Son of God and he emphasizes the wisdom of Christ. There are 6 miracles in John that are not included in the other gospels as is the Upper Room Discourse (ch 14-17). The significant theme in John is that belief in Jesus is required for salvation. |

569 | how do I know if God is speaking to me | John | prayon | 95120
Greetings kbus, This is in addition to Makarios answer. When you believe that God is speaking to you and you are not sure then first ask yourself does it completely line up with the Word? If not, then it can not be from God. If you are still unsure pray and ask God for a confirmation. As time goes on your discernment will grow and you will know. prayon |

570 | How many trials did Jesus attend? | John | prayon | 146910
Greetings swaimj, Here is the chronilogical sequence of that night: 1) The Last supper - where Christ washed the feet of the disciple, broke bread and prayed. 2) He then went to the garden to pray. 3) In the garden He was arrested by the Jews 4) From there He went to appear before Annas (who was Caiaphas father-in-law) where the first Jewish trial was. This was an informal examination. 5) Annas sent Him to appear before Caiaphas which was the 2nd Jewish trial. The purpose of this trial was to seek false testimony against Him. Theyt chargeed HIm with blasphemy instead (He supposedly blasphemized when He said that He would tear down the temple in 3 days). The bottom line was that they just wanted to put Him to death. Blasphemy was an excuse for them but in reality He died for our sins. 6) Caiphas then sent Him to Pilate. This was the first Roman trial. Pilate interagated Him and found no fault in Him. 7) Pilate sent Him to Herod where He was tried again. Herod was happy to see Him because he was convinced that he would be able to see a miracle. But Christ remained silent. 8) Herod sent Him back to Pilate where He had His second Roman trial. Pilate wanted to let Him go because he knew He was not guilty of anything and he had recognized the jealousy of the Jews. Even his wife told him not to become involved. Pilate was starting to believe that He was the Son of God. Pilate tried to let Him go by proclaiming His innocence so he had Him beat to appease the people. He also offered to release Him according to the Jewish Passover custom. However, when the people yelled if you let this man go you are not Caesar's friend - Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar. Pilate then washed his hands of the affair and handed Him over to the Jews who crucified Him. It is important to note that whole trial was illegal according to Jewish law for the following reasons: 1) Before the trial began it was determinded that Jesus was guilty. Law was that you had to be proven guilty 2) False witnesses were brought to testify against Jesus. 3) No defense for Jesus sought or allowed 4) Trial conducted at night - according to their laws trials must be held during the day 5) High Priest put Jesus under oath then incriminated Him for what He said. 6) Serious charges were only to be tried in the Sanhedrin's meeting place, not in the high priests palace. Hope this answers your questions. Susan |

571 | When did Jesus know He was God? | John 1:1 | prayon | 165547
Greetings srinaldi, He knew from the beginning. John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." The Word is one of the titles of our Lord, found only in the writings of John. (Easton Bible Dictionary). prayon |

572 | Jesus' temptation | John 1:32 | prayon | 17518
Each of the gospels is told by a different person and each of these persons stressed a different aspect of Jesus. Matthew presents Jesus as the mighty king. It emphasizes on the Power of Christ and is presented in a teaching style. Mark presents Jesus as the obedient servant. It emphasizes the service of Christ and is the narrative gospel and is full of action. Luke, who was a doctor, wrote about the Son of Man. His gospel is carefully documented and emphasizes the sympathy of Christ. John's gospel is considered the spiritual gospel and emphasizes the wisdom of Christ. Some did go into the temptation because of these differences and some didn't. prayon |

573 | Whatis needed in a relation with God? | John 3:3 | prayon | 70546
Greetings Bluecow25, To have a relationship with God communication is the key. You must pray and talk to Him more than just daily. There must be a intimacy in the relationship. We are told to pray unceasingly. Another important key is that you must trust Him above all and put Him first above all. He wants to be the main focus in your life. When you put these things into practice you will know His voice and you can hear when He speaks to you. prayon
574 | Free from Israel and their God | John 3:16 | prayon | 109171
Greetings, Imagine 2 colors, black and white side by side. That's the way it is with Jesus. Either you accept Him or you don't. There is no gray area, you can not just pay Him tribute when you want. I don't need to free you from Him, you are quite capable of making your own decision. It is your choice whether you decide to walk with Jesus or not. Jesus never said that being a Christian was easy, in fact He promises us that we will face persecution. But The benefits far outway the short time here on earth that we will be facing perscution. I urge you to way the consequences carefully. You appear to know the bible so I think that you know what you will face eternally withouut Jesus. Today is here but tomorrow is never promised. prayon |

577 | Saved vs. Works (John 5:24 and 5:28-29) | John 5:24 | prayon | 60636
Greetings Bubba, Jesus was not teaching justifacation by works. In the context the "good" is believing on the son as to receive a new nature that produces good works, while the "evil" done is to reject the Son (the unsaved) and hate the light which has the result of evil deeds. In essence, works merely evidence one's nature as saved or unsaved, but human works never determine one's salvation. In these verses Christ was talking to the Jews. Hope this answers your quesions. prayon
578 | What reduced the crowds to just a few? | John 6:66 | prayon | 8146
Nolan there were a few reasons why the crowds dwindled: 1)Many realized that Jesus wasn't the conquering king that they had expected. 2)Some were upset because they wouldn't give in to their self-centered requests. 3)Jesus emphasized faith not works. 4)His teachings were hard to understand. 5)Many of his words and teachings were offensive. prayon |

579 | Did Jesus change His mind? | John 7:8 | prayon | 7156
I believe that He did not go up to the feast with the disciples because He did not want to be the center of attention since His time had not come yet. According to the Life Application Bible commentary it states that Jesus had the greatest gift but he acted secretly because He knew that the religious leaders hated Him and the more He taught publicly the more trouble the religious leaders would make for Him. It was necessary for Him to teach as quietly as possible so that the trouble would not be stirred up prematurely. Another point to ponder is maybe Jesus acted secretly because the religious leaders had a lot of power over the Jews. If the people were warned off by the leaders before they heard Jesus message then they might not of gone to hear Him at all because of that fear. I think he did just want to go up alone and told His disciples it was not His time yet bcause it was not His time to go public full force. prayon |

580 | Flow out of WHOSE innermost being? | John 7:38 | prayon | 33488
Greetings, In the previous verse the Lord cried out "If anyone thirsts let him come to me and drink." In the verse you are referring to the antecedent "his" is referring to the person who thirsts and goes to Christ for a drink of that living water. When he drinks in the water then out of his heart will flow more living water. The more we drink the greater our river will be. prayon
