561 | felled tree Isaiah 11:1 | Is 11:1 | prayon | 33004
Greetings Lightning56, Verses 11-9 talk about how Assyria would be like a tree cut down at the height of its power. Judah, the royal line of David, would be like a tree chopped to its stump. But out of that stump a new branch would grow. The branch would be Jesus. He would be greater than the original tree and would bear much fruit. (Life Appl Bible commentary). prayon

565 | Why the Old and New Testament? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 31925
They are both connected and seperate. They are connected in the fact that they are the word of God. They are seperated in the fact that the OT is before Jesus and the NT is Jesus life on. We read both for a number of reasons. One is that to understand why things were said or done in the NT we must read the OT. For example, why did Jesus have to die on the cross in order for us to be set free? You can find the answer in Leviticus 17. Proof that Jesus life and death were also foretold in the OT (particularly in Isaiah chapter 53) telling us that He was the promised Messiah. The history of the nation of Isreal is also found throughout the OT which tells us a lot of how and why the Isrealites were the way they were. I have come to understand the NT much better after studying the OT. prayon |

566 | Will unbelievers be raised from Sheol? | Rev 21:8 | prayon | 31740
Greetings, The way it was explained to me by someone is this was. If one never had the opportunity to be told of the one true God then God will judge them on their life. Whether they ever heard of the gospel or not they would still have a conscious. Did the person live by that conscious or were they a person without morals? Our God is a just God. He would not judge someone for not accepting Him if they had never had the opportunity to hear about Him. prayon

568 | Confusion concerning Jesus's death | Lev 17:11 | prayon | 31739
Greetings chynna, In the OT God commanded that whenever you sin you must present a sin offering. This offering must be an animal (free of blemishes) which was chosen by your station in life (Lev 4:13-35). Blood was a very important part of the sacrifice because the life of the flesh is blood. In other words, when you sin God demanded blood in order to forgive you. The sinner placed his hands upon the animal and transfered all of his sins to the animal and then the animal was sacrificed for the sin. When Christ came he became the sin offering. Jesus took all of our sins upon Himself and died for us on the cross. His blood was the sacrifice for our sins. If He had not died we would not have forgiveness for our sins and we would still be sacrificing animals. Before Jesus went to the cross He was sin free. While upon the cross everything became dark (Matt 27:45-50). In this darkness Jesus cried out to God and God lifted the darkness, symbolizing His full acceptance of the sin offering. At this point Jesus was again sin free. He died sin free and thus was not destined for hell. Hope this helps. prayon |

569 | FOUR LIVING CREATURES, AND FORM OF MEN | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 29861
Greetings Swiggy, This prophecy was given in dream form. It portrays the "the vision of God"(1:1) and 'the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord" (1:28). Therefore this is a vision of the glory of God. The vision as a whole was perceived a violent electrical storm from the north. With in the storm were two major objects: 1. 4 living creatures with attending wheels and 2. one like a man enthroned upon an expanse stretchilng over the heads of the four living creatures. Each of the 4 living creatures had the likeness and general appearance of a man with the face of an eagle, an ox, and a lion. Each of the appearances can be linked to the 4 gospels. The lion represents strength (Matthew, the lion of Judah), the ox represents diligent service (Mark who portrayed Christ as the servant), the human features which portrayed the intelligence (Luke - portrayed Christ as the perfect human), and the eagle a symbol of divinity (John who portrayed Christ as the son of God high and divine). Some see these creatures as the most majestic of God's creatures and say that the represent the whole creation. It is interesting to note that the vision of John in Rev 4:4 parallels Ezekiels vision) A turning wheel stood beside each creature each moving in a different direction. Thus able to move anywhere these wheels show that God is able to be present everywhere and able to see all things (1:18). The 4 living creatures and 4 wheels are powerful pictures of judgement. The rainbow over the throne symbolizes God's never ending faithfulness to His people. Just as God sent a rainbow too symbolize His promise never again to destroy the earth so this rainbow symbolizes His promise to preserve those who remain faithful to Him. The human revealed God's holiness and prepared Ezekiel for what God was about to tell him, just as Christ came in human form and prepared us for His message of salvation. With Ezekiel seeing God's glory he fell on his face just as Isreal should of done. We, too, must fall on our face before God either in judgement or out of reverance and awe. The importance of the message is is that God never forgets those who faithfully seek to obey Him. prayon |

570 | Do demons still exists? | Eph 6:12 | prayon | 29818
Greetings, Eerdman's Bible dictionary defines demons as 'a spirit with minor powers.' "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers" (demons) "of darkness of this world". Eph 6:12. Eph 4:27 warns us to not "give place to the devil". 1Tim 4:1 tells us that in latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits (demons), and doctrines of the devil. The NT depicts demons as any evil spirit. Yes, Kaman there are still demons today. They can exist in any form. They can even disguise themselves as angels of light. They can be found everywhere where there is anything that would keep you from worshipping the One true and living God and giving your life totally to Him. prayon |

571 | Distance Jesus walked to Calvary | Matt 27:32 | prayon | 29812
Greetings, We are not told exactly how far Jesus had to walk outside the city but I do not believe it was any great distance at all. The bible only tells us that He was led out of the city. Jerusalem was considered the Holy city, the Temple of God was located there as well as God's presence. To crucify anyone inside the city would of meant defiling the city. They only had to be outside of the city to crucify anyone. Jesus was made to feel the shame of a common criminal being forced outside the city. prayon
572 | What does unclean sprit look for to rest | Matt 12:43 | prayon | 29346
I believe that it will look for another body to reside in. Unclean spirits are looking to cause problems or prohibit growth in Christ. Although they can live in animals as Jesus showed us when He sent the demons into the swine in Mark 5:11-13, they can not do much to further the cause of Satan while in animals. prayon
573 | what doesthe parable of tenant mean | Mark 12:12 | prayon | 29345
Greetings stella-f, If you go to Matt 21:33 you will find the same parable. The parable before in Matt 21:28-32 are related. The parable of the 2 sons seeks to convict the religious leaders of their serious misconduct and spiritual loss in the past. In this parable the emphasis is on the present. Jesus lets them know that He is aware of their plots against His life. He warns them of the serious consequences of putting Him to death. He also associates Himself with the OT prophets of Isreal. The landowner is God and the vineyard represents the nation of Isreal. The tenants represent the people of Isreal who were responsible to give God. Their were responsible for spreading God's word and reaping a fruitful harvest for Him. The servants were all the OT prophets from Abel to John the Baptist. All through the OT prophets were rejected, and punished both physically and mentally. The son represented God's son, Jesus. The majority refused to accept even God's son. Jesus tells them that they will be put to a miserable death. It is interesting to note that this is one of the 3 parables that is given in all 4 gospels. This emphasizes it's importance. |

574 | matthew 12-43 | Matthew | prayon | 29338
Greetings Mrchadly, When you look at a verse for its meaning you must look at the entire passage to get a true meaning. This is another one of Jesus' parables. Here Jesus again raises the subject of Satan. Jesus is describing the attitude of the nation of Isreal. Verse 43 describes the reformation. Upon exile from both Egypt and Babylon, the Jews gave up all their idols made of wood and stone. The unclean spirit of idol worship had gone out of them. Verse 44, however, tells us that they had not replaced this idol worship with true worship of the living God. Verse 45 tells us that with their lives empty of worship it left plenty of room for Satan to reenter the body bringing plenty of demons with him. Their sin against God was far worse than their former sins of idolatry for now they chose to reject the very person of God Himself. We can also follow this pattern when we become saved and then don't change our life to live a life for God. Whenever we turn to Jesus or make a Godly change in our lives we must fill the void the sin left with Godly things or Satan will reclaim that empty space. prayon |

575 | matthaew 16 verse 24 | Matt 16:24 | prayon | 29131
Greetings! To add just a little more to the above answers. The cross is at the place where your will differs from God's. To take up your cross means to deny your self. To do this you must count your desires, thoughts, feelings, plans - your entire former way of life and thinking as having died. In its place you are to chooses God's thoughts, God's will, God's emotions, God's purposes, and God's power at the very center of your being and life. prayon
576 | What did it mean to give up birthright? | OT general | prayon | 29021
Greetings JohnR, In the ancient Near East it was the custom that the inheritance be passed from the father to the sons. The eldest son was to get a double portion, and all younger brothers a smaller portion. This was known as the birthright. It was protected in the laws of the OT in Deut. 21:15-17. However, there have been times when the birthright was sold to a younger brother such as Esau and Jacob in Gen. 25:27-34. When one gave up his birthright he gave up this double portion of the inheritance. prayon |
