2 | Was Timothy Circumcised | 1 Thess 2:4 | prayon | 177467
Greeting rodant666 and welcome to the forum, Yes Timothy was circumsized. Paul ordered it in Act 16:3 (Paul wanted Timothy to go with him. So he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in those places and because he knew that Timothy's father was Greek). prayon
3 | John 20:23 | John 20:23 | prayon | 176984
Greetings azurelaw, In this verse it does not refer to a single person but instead it refers to the church as a whole. In Matt 16:19 Jesus gives Peter (and by extension all other Chrisitians) the authority to declare what has been loosed in Heaven. This echos ghe promise of John 20:23 where Christ gave the disciples authority to forgive or retain the sins of the people. This must be understood in all context of Matt 18:15-17 where Christ laid out specific instructions for dealing with the sin in the church. When putting all these verses together it tells us that any duly constituted body of believers, acting on the authority of Gods word, has the authority to declare if someone is forgiven or unforgiven. For example if the church says an unrepented person is bound in sin the church is saying what God's word says about that person. No where in the bible does it support that we ever memorize someone elses sins or that we retain the sins of someone by not forgiving them. Hope that this helps. prayon |

4 | could i get bible verses on healing | Is 53:5 | prayon | 176969
Greetings idjd and welcome to the forum! There are numerous scriptures on healing - here a just a couple: Isa 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was on Him; and with His stripes we ourselves are healed. Jer 30:17 I'll restore your health and heal your wounds," declares the LORD. Psa 147:3 He heals the broken-hearted, and binds up their wounds. 1Pe 2:24 Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross so that freed from our sins, we could live a life that has God's approval. His wounds have healed you. Hope these help. prayon |

5 | sons of God? | Gen 3:15 | prayon | 176808
Greetings teresaa, Some believe that the sons of God were the sons of Seth who cohabitated with the daughters of Cain, others suggest that they were maybe human kings who wanted to build harems. Gen 6:1-4 puts emphasis on the fact that they were angels (Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7) who saw and took wives from the human race which produced a union that violated the God ordained order of human marriage and procreation. The NT places this account in sequence with other Genesis events and identifies it as involving fallen angels who indwelt men (2Pet 2:3-5, Jude 6-8). Hope this helps. prayon |

6 | who is Theophilus? | Acts 1:1 | prayon | 176802
Greetings Swt413 and welcome to the forum! Theophilus is referred to twice in the bible - Once in Luke 1:3 and again in Acts 1:1. He was a lover of God, a Christian and probably Roman. Luke dedicated both his gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles to him. Because of the fact that Luke referred to him as "most excellent" - the same as he referred to Felix and Festus it is assumed that he was a person of rank - perhaps a Roman officer. Nothing else is known about him. Hope this helps. prayon |

Greetings Wilram and welcome to the forum! Here are some additional verses on anger: Eph 4:26-27 Be angry without sinning. Don't go to bed angry. Don't give the devil any opportunity to work. Eph 4:31 Get rid of your bitterness, hot tempers, anger, loud quarreling, cursing, and hatred. Psa 37:8 Let go of anger, and leave rage behind. Do not be preoccupied. It only leads to evil. 9 | Is dressing like someone - submission | James 4:7 | prayon | 175289
Greetings and welcome to the forum! NO! Absolutely not! Submit: To yield, resign or surrender to the power, will or authority of another; with the reciprocal pronoun. Submission: 1. The act of submitting; the act of yielding to power or authority; surrender of the person and power to the control or government of another. 2. Obedience; compliance with the commands or laws of a superior. Submission of children to their parents is an indispensable duty. 3. Resignation; a yielding of one's will to the will or appointment of a superior without murmuring. Entire and cheerful submission to the will of God is a christian duty of prime excellence. (definitions from Websters Dictionary). We are to be obedient to the pastor and submit to the authority that God has placed in him. But submitting does not mean imitating or copying. The only person we are to imitate is Jesus Chirst (Eph 5:1) Hope his helps. prayon |

10 | what's the duty of an decon | 1 Tim 3:10 | prayon | 175237
Greetings Newwine64, Deacon. The office described by this title appears, in the New Testament, as the correlative of bishop. See Bishop. The two are mentioned together in Phm 1:1; 1Ti 3:2; 1Ti 3:8. Its original meaning implied a helper, an assistant. The bishops were the "elders," the deacons were the young active men, of the church. The narrative of Acts 6 is commonly referred to as giving an account of the institution of this office. The apostles, in order to meet the complaints of the Hellenistic Jews that their widows were neglected in the daily ministration, call on the body of believers to choose seven men "full of the Holy Ghost and of wisdom," whom they "may appoint over this business." It may be questioned, however, whether the seven were not appointed to higher functions than those of the deacons of the New Testament. Qualifications and duties. Special directions as to the qualifications for and the duties of deacons will be found in Acts 6, and 1Ti 3:8 12. From the analogy of the synagogue, and from the scanty notices in the New Testament, we may think of the deacons or "young men" at Jerusalem as preparing the rooms for meetings, distributing alms, maintaining order at the meetings, baptizing new converts, distributing the elements at the Lord's Supper. 12 | can you put memorials of loved ones on u | Lev 19:28 | prayon | 175209
Greetings and welcome to the forum! There is a second scripture that I think is applicable. 1Co 6:19 says Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit in you, whom you have of God? And you are not your own. I believe that since our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit we should not put markings on them any more than we should put markings on His temple. 13 | I would like a personal opinion of this | Heb 4:12 | prayon | 175177
Greetings Mack, Although the Word is comforting and nourishing to those of us who believe, it is also a tool of judgement and execution for those who do not believe. It cuts through all the topical layers of our being and delves deep into our inner most being. He knows all and sees all and we will be accountable at the time of judgement. Sometimes when I just can't grasp the meaning of a verse it helps me to look at other translations. Here are a couple other wordings of the same verse. Message Bible: Heb 4:12 God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. God's Word: God's word is living and active. It is sharper than any two-edged sword and cuts as deep as the place where soul and spirit meet, the place where joints and marrow meet. God's word judges a person's thoughts and intentions. International Standard Version: For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow, as it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart. Hope this helps, prayon |

15 | Gambling reference on the bible | 1 Cor 4:2 | prayon | 175154
Greetings dyustlucky and welcome to the forum! I can not find any mention of gambling in the bible. However, the bible refers to addictions throughout the bible. Gambling is a well documented addiction. Addictions are inevitably placed before God which is a sin. Also with this tpye of addiction finances come to mind. We are commanded by God to be good stewards of our finances. I do not believe that gambling falls under being good stewards. Here are some scriptures that deal with gambling: Gen 3:19 2Thes 3:10 2Corin 12:14 1Cor 6:12; 10:31 Col 3:2,5,6 Rom 12:1 Exo 20:15,17 Hope this helps. prayon |

16 | Where was Jesus during death? | Matt 12:40 | prayon | 175151
Greetins 6Bunkins and welcome to the forum! The bible is not specific about what Jesus was doing during those 3 days and nights. We do know that He went to paradise (Luk 23:43 Jesus said to him, "I can guarantee this truth: Today you will be with me in paradise."). In Rev 1:18 Jesus says "I was dead, but now I am alive forever. I have the keys of death and hell." It is assumed that He got these "keys" during those 3days and nights. The bible also states in Mat 12:40 that "Like Jonah, three days and nights in the fish's belly, the Son of Man will be gone three days and nights in a deep grave". Hope this helps some, prayon |

17 | Why did my mom die? | 1 Cor 2:9 | prayon | 175041
Greetings Vince, Some years ago I lost my best friend and her 5 year old son to a drunk driver. I was angry and suffered a long time because I just couldn't understand why she and her son died so young. One day God finally revealed this to me. He reminded me that He is omnipotent. He can see what lies ahead for each of us. He also reminded me that I did not know what pain and suffering would of laid ahead for her in her life that because of her death she is now spared of. As a nurse I will assume that there were medical problems that caused you to go home to live with her and that she was in the hospital for. Rest in the fact that she is now spared from any further physical suffering and she rests in the arms of Jesus where there is no suffering or pain but only pure joy. In every situation I always try to look for a blessing even when it seems that there are none. However, I have found that if I look hard enough there is always one there - there is one in this situation too. with Christ's love, prayon |
