1 | Renewal AGAIN to repentance? | NT general Archive 1 | 25019 | |||
I'm not really understanding what you are saying or asking. But let me ask you a question... If a person returns to a life of sin having come to know Jesus as their personal Savior, dies having never repented or never came back to Christ...you're saying that they will be saved? It boggles my mind that people actually believe that. Oh well. |

GloriaLynn: If that idea boggles your mind, you ought to take a stroll through some of the REAL kookiness that has shown its face on this forum. I actually hold that those who "fall away" were never truly saved in the first place, which is the traditional Protestant understanding of the perseverance of the saints. This doctrine is based on the Scripture passages that all those who are justified in Christ will endure to the end (2 Timothy 2:12; Hebrews 3:12). Those who do not endure were never of the elect in the first place (1 John 2:19). My two questions for you: since we never attain sinlessness in this life, where do you consider to be the line between sinful acts as a believer in Christ and being apostate from the faith? Secondly, since Hebrews 6:6 seems to indicate that those who have fallen away cannot be brought back to repentance, how do you justify a claim that we can be saved, lose our salvation, and then get it back again. Your claim seems to be a direct contradiction of this verse. --Joe! |

Question.............................. Hi Joe! I was reading your post and looking up some of your Scripture references. I had questions about two of them. 1) 2 Tim. 2:12 - Are you taking the "if" as a statement of fact as oppossed to a conditional statement? 2) Heb. 3:12 - Is this the right reference? If so, how does it relate to eternal security? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim: "Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end..." Hebrews 3:12-14 We are partakers of Christ if we hold fast to the end (i.e. "not fall away"). By logical deduction, those who do not hold fast to the end are not partakers of Christ (and never were, according to my understanding of Scripture). I hold 2 Timothy 2:12 to use "if" in a conditional sense, since it would be illogical to tell a congregation "since we endure, we will also reign with Him; since we deny Him, He will also deny us." Endurance to the end is a hallmark of the believer in Christ. God preserves me in my faith, showing me and the world that I am truly His. That is not to say that I am perfect, but my general orientation toward sin is hatred of it (hopefully more and more each day), a la Romans 7:19. --Joe! |
