1 | Saved by belief or belief and baptism? | NT general Archive 1 | rchrd_wiliams | 201107 | ||
If you take the bible liturally yes. John 3:5 suggests that both are neccesary. also if you examine Col 2:12 it expresses the importance of death with Christ, and when I mean die I mean the death of our old selves and the the birth of the new. Most peole shrug off the symbolism of baptism as just symbolism ( but ask your self this if its not essential then why did Jesus tell his disciples that those who believ AND are baptised are saved?(Mk 16:16) Its most commonly believed that through faith in Christ alone you are saved and its true but like Moses we must act by faith and by doing such strengthens your faith so that you wont lose it down the road. Dear Richard, The post you're responding to is over 7 years old, so I doubt the original poster will reply! I'm not certain of the conclusion you're making? I would suggest- based on a bit of my own study- that those verses of Paul (Gal. 3:27, Col. 2:12, Rom. 6:3, etc) are dealing with spiritual baptism consistent with 1 Cor. 12:13! My own experience tells me most people shrug off spiritual baptism and place more emphasis on the symbolic! The Holy Spirit is the the One Who unites us with Christ! This is the reality. Without it, symbolism is meaningless. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Well said Brother Brad! And might I add many also find it easy to shrug off scripture which is not only clear but should give them reason to evaluate their understanding of scripture which seems to conflict. For example, John 3:16, John 3:18, John 3:36, Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, etc… Steve |
