Please, please, forgive me if I have deliberately offended any of you. I do not see where I have tried to defame anyone. If I have, I do humbly ask for forgiveness. Cut and paste is my way of saying, please think for yourself. If I want to know what CRI believes, then I know perfectly well how to go there. It's a link on my computer. I've downloaded many things from there. The scripture to which you are refering that I should use, I'm not quite sure I know what your looking for. Do you want me to give Chapter and verse for all the goofy stuff I see in the Catholic church? I wouldn't even know where to begin? It would simply be endless. I think the fact that they use so many idols ("You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. Little children keep yourselves from idols. etc etc.) Praying to, bowing down before etc, breaks the 1st commandment. This was the question at hand. Is the catholic church cultic. Kalos responded with a cut and paste saying NO they are not cultic. Fine I said. It's Heretical. I'm not sure what other scriptures I could present. Of all the practices I mentioned, no one said I was wrong, OR proved to me it was OK to do them. But, just let me mention health or wealth and watch all the panties bunch up. I'm not trying to scripturally prove anything. I'm just saying MY PET PEEVE is the fact that when it comes to health and wealth verse nailing yourself to the cross, penance, the worship of Mary etc, there seems to be no contest. THE MAJORITY OF CHRISTIANS WOULD DEFEND THE CATHOLIC BUT STONE THE WOF. Could someone please tell me why the same rules that condemn WoF do not carry the same condemnation to the Catholic doctrine? At least not from Kalos' cut and paste article. |

Greetings In the Andes! Good morning my friend! I think many of us would agree with you about particular teachings of the Catholic church. However, most of us would disagree that the Catholic church is a cult. What Kalos was trying to do with his quotes was to simply provide the reasons for that judgement. I know I don't consider them a cult, but neither do I consider the Word of Faith movement a cult. I do however think that they are wrong on much of their teaching. This is what I was referring to when I said that you should reference Scripture. If you feel that Word of Faith is Biblical, then provide us with a Biblical presentation to which we can respond. Good Morning Brother Tim May I ask you if you know if we have a biblical standard by which to determine if a group is a cult or not. I ask because another sister and I looked up 'cult' in the Webster's dictionary and to be perfectly honest, we both felt that we(believers) could be define as a cult if you use Webster's dictionary. My goal is to allow the Word of God to be the final authority. So, have you come across any scriptures that you believe can help us identify a 'cult'? One scripture that I consider is I John 4:1-3. Thanks so much for your response. Abba Father Bless you... :) Sister Meredith |

Greetings Meredith! Good morning! You are right about the word 'cult'. It's meaning depends a lot on perspective. Christianity in a strict sense was a cult of Judaism. However, Christians have developed a much stricter definition of the term, as Kalos posted earlier. It mostly refers to those who: 1) Deny the deity of Christ. 2) Have other sources of authority apart from the Bible. 3) Reject the Biblical doctrine of salvation by grace. 4) Have a dictorial leader. More could be added, but Scripture simply refers to them as false teachers or false prophets. 1 John 4:1-3 is definitly a good start! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
