"...not originally part of Mark's gospel." 'Mark 16:9-20. The external evidence strongly suggests these verses were not originally part of Mark's gospel. While the majority of Gr. manuscripts contain these verses, the earliest and most reliable do not. ... Further, some that include the passage note that it was missing from older Gr. manuscripts, while others have scribal marks indicating the passage was considered spurious. The fourth-century church fathers Eusebius and Jerome noted that almost all Gr. manuscripts available to them lacked vv. 9-20. 'The internal evidence from this passage also weighs heavily against Mark's authorship... 'While for the most part summarizing truths taught elsewhere in Scripture, vv. 9-20 should always be compared with the rest of Scripture, and no doctrines should be formulated based solely on them.' ____________________ (The MacArthur Study Bible, 1997, Word Publishing)." |

Hi Kalos, MacArthur says that we should compare this Scripture with other Scriptures. Mark 16:6, "And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you are looking for (Jesus) the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen; *He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples and Peter, 'He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him/, just as He said to you.'" And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had gripped them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. 9 [ Now after He had risen early on the first day of the week, (He) first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. 10 She went and reported to those who had been with *Him, while they were mourning and weeping." Matthew 28:5, "And the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 He/ is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where (He) was lying. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that *He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going before you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you." 8 And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus/ met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then (Jesus) said to them, "Do not be afraid, go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they shall see *Me." Luke 23:54, "Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed after, and saw the tomb and how (His) body was laid." Luke 24:5, "..."Why do you seek the living One among the dead? 6 He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He/ spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of (Man) must...rise again. Luke 24:22, "But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, and did not find (His) body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that He was alive. And some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but *Him they did not see." John 20:9, "For as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that (He) must rise again from the dead." John 20:25, "The other disciples therefore were saying to him, "We have seen the (Lord!)" But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into *His side, I will not believe." John 21:12, "Jesus said to them, "Come, and have breakfast." None of the disciples ventured to question Him, "Who are You?" knowing that it was the (Lord)." Summary: Mark: They were looking for (Jesus). (He) first appeared to Mary Magdalene and she reported to those who had been with *Him. Matthew: While (He) was alive, that deceiver said that "After three days I am to rise again." They were looking for Jesus and were told, "Come, see the place where (He) was lying. And go quickly and tell His disciples that *He has risen from the dead;..." Matthew 28:10, "The (Jesus) said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they shall see *Me." Luke: The spirit that they thought they were seeing was He (Himself). Luke 24:39, "See My/ hands and My feet, that it is I (Myself); touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that *I have." I believe that Mark 16:9-20 compares very well with other Scriptures and see no reason to not include the passage. From the heart, Ray |
