Kalos I must be missing something but that is what I said. Mark 16:12 and Luke 24:13 is reporting the same incident. However in Mark 16:12 it say they didn't beleive it was Jesus, in Luke it say they were rejoicing since Jesus arose. EdB |

Hi EdB, I believe that the confusion for you is in Luke 24:34. I would say that the statement in that verse is from the men that were on the road to Damascus, which included Simon. They then related the things on the road and how He was recognized by them. I believe that we can know by the comparison of these passages, again, that we should be looking for (Spirit). In Luke 24:39 Jesus says "See My hands and My feet, that I am (He)." "Touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." Mark 16:6 says, "Do not be amazed; you are looking for (Jesus) the Nazarene [the man], who has been crucified." 7 But go, tell His disciples and Peter [Simon], 'He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him/, just as He said to you.'" 4 | short and long version of Mark 16:8 | Mark 16:9 | EdB | 125581 | ||
Ray dear friend In Mark 16:13 it says the two went and told the rest and they did not believe them. In Luke 24:34 it says the two went to the eleven and those gathered with them and they were rejoicing in Christ's resurrection. Therefore it appears that Mark's account is saying that when the two from the road of Ermmaus met with the disciples the disciples did not yet believe Jesus had arose and did not believe their account. However the account in Luke's gospel says when they met with the disciples the disciples were rejoicing in the resurrection and apparently accepted their story. EdB |

Hi EdB, In looking at these Scriptures I see another example of deciding about the inclusion of "Himself" in the translation/interpretation. Not only can we look at Luke 24:36 but also at the disputed ending of Mark 16 [And they promptly reported all these instructions to Peter and his companions. And after that, Jesus Himself sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation.] I think that the disciples did not believe that He had been resurrected. Whether they didn't believe because of joy or because of hardness of heart I don't know. It is an unbelievable hope that we have in Christ; that is, being resurrected with Him. But I think that if we keep our minds fixed on the things of the Spirit, we can be assured of this hope. From the heart, Ray |
