2 | Questions??? | Matt 27:3 | thetowns | 74230 | ||
Wow! This is a great question, that I believe could spark a lot of debate and interesting discussions. I don't know how others may read this, but when I read Matthew 27 verses 3 - 5, I see first that he realized the huge error of his ways: 3"When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. 4"I have sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood." However, this is followed in verse 5 by "So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself." I believe he was very much in the same boat as King Nebuchadnezzer, or Pharoah. Their evil was used to God's glory. Judas hanged himself, when he should have (in my opinion) repented and proclaimed the gospel for the remainder of his life. I do believe Judas was remorseful, but do not believe he repented, asked forgiveness for his sins, and was saved. God Bless you for a great and difficult question! |

thetowns: It is an interesting and not unanimously agreed upon question. I too take the view that Judas never repented- simply because we don't have any scriptural basis for knowing he did! However, I do believe that the passage you cited from Matt. 27:3-5 does shed some light when understood by 2 Cor.7:10: "For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death." I believe Judas had regret and the "sorrow of the world producing death"- his own. Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |
