PastorFloyd it is good to see that someone else is reading What God is telling His people instead of concentrating on just words. God has given us a picture of people's walk with Him in Exodus. He led the children of Israel through the wilderness by a pillar of fire by night and one of smoke by day. I am sure that as God had them stay in one place for a time and then the pillar started to move that some of them decided to stay where they were because they were familiar with the terrain. Imagine them watching as God moved away from them. How good they felt in the comfort zone. Until they realized that they had let themselves be removed from the presence of God. I know this is just a thought something contrary to some on the forum, but sometimes I just wonder. Anyway God led them around the desert until all those who had unbelief had died. Them He led the remainder into the Promised Land (I wonder what that represents). They crossed the Jordan river and the pillars ceased. Now they had to walk by faith and not by sight. They believed Numbers 23:19 as we do. They had chosen life not death. Pastor, remember Romans 3:3-4 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? [4] God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. [KJV] I believe if God said it, it is so. We should take the Bible at face value. All that God has done is for now not when we get to heaven. Power in the Holy Ghost is for now. The gifts of the Spirit are for now. The fruit of the Spirit is for us now. Abundant life is for us now. I wonder what abundant life means. It must mean I must suffer abundantly. Yeah that is what my Father who gives better gifts than us wants for our lives. To think that all this started with someone wanting to know what being overcome by the power of God meant. John 18:4-7 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? [5] They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. [6] As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. [7] Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. [KJV] Rev. 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: [KJV] Fell back and down by the power of Jesus words. Fell down AS DEAD. Hmmph I wonder if that is the same as . . . no it couldn't be. Pastor Floyd take heart there are those who believe all things are possible to those who believe God. A great many of us. Yours in Christ Jeff |

Jeff This is the perfect example of unredeemed sinners not being able to stand in the presence of Holiness (the Lord). So from this can we assume that everyone that falls in a prayer line is an unredeemed sinner unable to stand in the presence of the Lord? EdB |

EdB I didn't know that John the apostle writer of 5 books of the new testament was a unredeamed sinner when Jesus gave him His revelation. Thank you for that information. |

Asis I believe he fell forward in worship not backward as is the case of most "slain in spirit". Sorry if I wasn't clear on that point. EdB |

Umm.. he fell as though dead from fear, if I am reading the bible correctly.. not immediatly in worship. It doesn't say whether forward or backward. Probably his knees buckled and he fell whichever way his balance was at that moment, don't you think? I mean.. if you have ever swooned from fear, I think you would agree with that appraisal. And the only clear explanation is that he was knocked out (as though dead)from awe and fear of the Holy presence of God. I think it is dangerous to try to suppose that falling backward or forward is superior or more authentic to one or the other. ? Physical phenomenon accompanying the manifest presence of God is more the norm than vice versa, from accounts we have in the Bible. Tounges of fire type manifestations, falling to the ground, hair turning white, being struck dead! These and others are examples of what can happen when God meets his people in a manifest and supernatural way. There is no scripture stating that has changed any today from the way it was back in the scripture, that I've ever seen or been convinced of. Certainly some of what we see may be counterfeit to a greater or lesser degree, but that does not mean we should build doctrine around things to decry it from happening in the genuine arena. As Paul once stated (forgive the loose paraphrase)when some abuses entered into the Corinthian church.. don't forbid tongues or prophecy just because some people are getting out of order with them. That would be the greater loss! Instead eagerly DESIRE these things to happen! And thank God that they happen to me more than the rest of you! (end of loose paraphrase) |

Elijah_Jones Look I'm not trying to destroy anyones faith here. If you feel comfortable with people been slain in the spirit assembly line fashion fine. However with I think two exceptions every incident of people falling in the presence of the Lord or His Glory has been unredeemed sinners. I can find no Biblical prohibition against faling down if you feel so inclined so I really don't want to be part of this debate. I hope you understand. I regret and retract my previous comments on being slain in the spirit. EdB |

Thank you for your gracious response. I hope you see that I'm not necessarily "encouraging" the assembly line slain in the spirit thing.. I'm just saying that depending on the situation it may be false or genuine. Jesus promised that the sheep know his voice. If we are humble and come to His Word and meditate upon it with sincere desire to know Him and His truth, I think we can rest in His ability to lead us. I've met and seen what I believe to be 100 percent genuine supernatural manifestations of the spirit, and I've seen what I believe to be charismatic antics... the counterfeit always seeks to draw people away from the true. But we must not allow the counterfeit to create disdain for the genuine, or we are playing directly into the enemy's hand. That is my best understanding of things, which I admit is limited and totally dependant upon God to illuminate for me as I grow in wisdom and understanding. |

Elijah_Jones The real question that needs to be asked is whether we are seeking God or are we seeking manifestations. I find in many cases the manifestations are being sought rather than God. This then becomes a problem. God said we must come to Him in faith but many come to Him because of what they saw in the manifestations. In other words their faith is in the manifestations rather than God Himself. This was exactly what Jesus was fighting, the Jews wanted to see more miracles and Jesus kept telling them the miracles would not draw them to God, faith was what was required. Men have learned that manifestations draw people, therefore to draw crowd do something spectacular and people will come. Once you have a crowd if you handle them correctly you can draw money from them and make youself very wealthy. I saw a man work a crowd of 'Christians' using a familiar spirit. He slyly got the people seeking or looking for manifestations and then got their eyes focused on him. Through this familiar spirit he was able to tell past things in people's lives "read their mail" was the term coined. He would then do a "love offering" suggesting many things to draw more money from them. On a good night he could average 100 dollars per person. You might ask how I know he was using a familar spirit. Well he would be able to tell past sins that born again believers committed before they were saved. The Word says that when we are born again God forgets our sins, He takes them as far as the East is from the west, yet this man in a very playful way could recall them. This man worked the crowd for weeks having an attendance of 500-1000 an evening. Once the offerings started to fall he declared that the Holy Spirit had told him to move on that his work was finished there. All the diseases were cured. Once he left town the people that were cured of the various diseases started to realize they still had their problems. They started questioning their pastors how could this be, they "know" they this man cured them from cancer yet the doctor is telling them to go home and get ready to die. They know their little daughter was cured of this terrible disease but the doctor says she still had it. Teh pastors tried to explain to them what happened but the pastors had to be wrong this man wouldn't lie to them he had done such wonderous miracles. It had to be the pastor that was lying to them. Even if one of the pastors carefully explained how this man used familar spiirts most people would not admit this man was wrong. The next year when he returned the same process was repeated. Yet many of the those that he cured had already died or were too sick to attend. He explained that they had let the adversary come into their lives and steal back the healing. Therefore he had himself covered it wasn't his fault it was the peoples own fault. Notice he never offered to visit the sick to help them. Others brought up the question of the familar spirit and how could he tell the sins of someone saved. He quickly went to "thou shall not touch God's anointed" which immediately scared everyone into silence. Again covering himself. Once again he worked the crowds only this time he was only drawing 400-800 and averaging 90 dollars a person. He repeated the cycle for abut 4 years then stop coming to this town for while. The church attendance in this town never really varied and average attendance figures mirrored national increases and declines. Most of the people that he prayed for that had serious diseases are now dead and the ones that had aches in the shoulders and back are now wearing copper bracklets, and sleeping on magnetic beds. but if you talk to them of this man most will tell you of his great healing ministry. Of how he cured old Joe of cancer, yet old Joe died last year, the dumb doctors said it was cancer but they don't know anything their just "practicing" medicine. Or how the Collins girl was brought out of her wheelchair yet you just saw her in a new motorized wheelchair. I wrote this not to discourage or destroy anyones faith. GOD does HEAL! If you are sick or have an affliction pray believing for your healing. If you know someone that is sick pray for their healing. Understand God does heal, however sometimes that healing doesn't take place when and how we want it to. I wrote this to tell you and others their faith MUST be in God not the manifestation. The adversary and men looking to profit from others misery will always be able to produce remarkable manifestations. So faith placed in the manifestations will pass as the men pass. But faith placed in God will endure forever. EdB |

Hello again brother in our blessed Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ! I would have totally agree with you that miracles alone do not make a Christian. Nonetheless, signs and wonders were obviously an important part of Christ's ministry as well as the recorded events of the followers of Christ. I thank God that He has chosen to prove himself thru signs and wonders. I know that many DO come to know Jesus as Saviour and Lord as a result of them. But you are right that more than just coming for the signs, one must come to know Him. As I've heard many say in the charismatic circles.. signs and wonders should be following US, not vice versa. :) Now.. I can only refute this incident with the same information that I have already posted. That although some may in fact try to use deceptive tactics to "fleece the sheep", that does in no way discredit those that are operating in true annointing. The sternest warning in all of scripture came right on the heals of the religious "correct" group of the day attesting that Jesus was delivering people using a familiar spirit, or the power of Beelzebub. That deserves serious consideration, in my estimation. I feel we must exercise extreme caution and humility as we come before the Lord on these matters, lest we be guilty of the same offense. |

Your absolutely right just because they can be abused does not mean all are false. However what the church today needs more than at any time in the past is DISCERNMENT. Unfortunately that is one aspect of the gifts most never seek and those that possess it rarely use it. EdB |
