Pastor Floyd: Your who's who list reads more like the people whose teaching I'd avoid than it does spiritual counselors I'd trust. Your statement to the effect that if the ideas you're trying to push are good enough for these people they're good enough for you says nothing about whether they have any biblical foundation. It's more a case of the blind leading the blind than anything else. .... Who or what gives you the "right" (as you claim) to be healed? What other "rights" do we fallen, depraved sinners have? What other rights, besides the rights to be healed and to be rich, can we name and claim of the holy and righteous God of all that is? ..... Show me one verse in Scripture that teaches that Jesus went to the cross for our physical healing. Or so that we can be financially prosperous. Just one. Notice I say PHYSICAL healing -- that's what you have been stressing, isn't it? Stressing physical healing and personal prosperity. Whatever happened to the real healing that Jesus accomplished on the cross -- the spiritual healing? Do you have any room left in your man-centered theology for that? "By His stripes we are healed" is about spiritual healing from the ravages of sin. It never had anything to do with the "healing" carnivals that come to town with all the glitter and dazzle of a three-ring circus -- and with just as many clowns. --Hank

Hank: Read the New Testament. All though the New Testament Jesus and His followers laid hands on the people and they were healed, IF THEY BELIEVED. Hank, If you do not want to be healed or be prosperous, that is your right. I read where scripture says God is no respecter of persons. If they received healing then that means I can receive healing. (My interpretation). Hank, if you want to be sick while worshipping Jesus Christ, YOU CAN. God said He will give you whatever you ask for. Read the Scriptures on healing with an open mind. Don't try to put something in there that is not there. Careful Hank! I have seen many instances where a Christian ridiculed a man of God and got something they weren't asking for. My son slammed a man of God and received a sickness that he knew was caused by his slanderous accusations. There was no doubt in his mind what caused it either. He does not slander a man of God now. I will not slam you or anyone elses ministry, I suggest that we do not do it on this forum. We can disagree without becoming slanderous to the body of Christ. Hank: Did Jesus ever heal anyone spiritually? Show me a scripture that pertains to it. I believe the WHOLE Bible and if you can give me a scripture that says we are to be sick and poor in this world I will follow it up with one that says we are to be well. I once heard a minister preach a sermon at a minister's conference and the gist of what he was saying is this: "If you want your church to prosper, do not tell your congregation that tithing went out with the Apostles. Then ask them for donations to pay the bills. It will not work! If you do not want healing physically Hank, don't ask for it! I can guarantee you will not get it. Hank: If you believe that God wants us sick then why do you go to a doctor to get medicine to get well? Don't you know that you are going against God? Remember what Nicodemus or (some guy who was a follower of Jesus), said, "If we are fighting against man this will fail, but if we are fighting against God, God will prevail." (My interpretation). If your child or grandchild is dying, Hank, don't ask God to help him or her. That would be totally against the Word of God. After all, Hank, let them die and they will be healed spiritually. Why shouldn't I believe that I serve a compassionate God instead of one that wants me to be sick? If sickness helps us to become closer to God then just before your kids go to school, hit them on the head with a hammer. The pain will cause them to get closer to God. Course it may cause them to disrespectful to you too Hank and cuss you out. |

Pastor Floyd: AGAIN I ask you to submit scriptural evidence for your views. Do you place any value at all on what the Bible actually teaches? All I've been able to get out of you so far is a mirroring of what the Word-Faith deceivers falsely teach. --Hank

Again we fall back onto the scriptures in Matthew 16:6. I cannot give you a scripture that pertains to being knocked out by the Holy Spirit except John 18:4-7 or Revelation 1:7. They do not unequivacally say that this is for slain in the spirit. Why don't we let it go Hank? I can't convince you that there is anything for this view and I refuse to be drawn into an endless series of discussions on what I do and what I don't believe. I base all my obersvations and interpretations on the Bible. You base yours on the same thing and we go round and round. Believe what you want to Hank. These people that are being slain in the spirit are not bothering you or me by doing so. I see many, many, many of them that are doing it in the natural and many of then don't even know why. They are doing it because they are expected to do it. I pray that someday you have the same experience that I and many others have had. In the meantime, believe what you want to Hank.

Pastor Floyd: Possibly the worst advice you've given thus far is in the last words of your post # 90811: "Believe what you want to, Hank." If that's the best advice my pastor could give me, I'd flee from his pastorate at once. Paul did not say to Timothy, "Preach what you want to, and tell your hearers to believe what they want to, did he now, "Pastor" Floyd? In case you don't remember what charge Paul gave Timothy, here it is: "I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers, and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables." (2 Timothy 4:1-4) So preach your Word-Faith fables if you must. No doubt you will always find someone who has itching ears. But my ears don't itch! --Hank

Tell me something Hank. Are you enraged because I believe in healing, slain in the spirit, prosperity? All those things or is it because I won't back down on my beliefs and live a defeated life? I do not want to be sick. I do not want to be poor. I do not want to listen to the god of this world. I DO WANT TO FOLLOW THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS CHRIST. MY INTREPRETATION. MINE HANK, MINE! I BELIEVE GOD WANTS ME TO BE WELL. HE WANTS ME TO BE HEALED. HE WANTS ME TO LIVE A LIFE OF WELL-BEING. HE WANTS BE TO LIVE A LIFE THAT IS RICH IN ALL THINGS. HE WANTS ME TO BELIEVE HIS WORD THE WAY THAT IS BEST FOR MY INTERESTS. UNDERSTAND HANK. MY BELIEFS!

Pastor Floyd, Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and His peace and blessing upon you, my brother! You are absolutely right that we all have a personal responsibility to go directly to the Word of God and take it at face value as the Spirit gives us understanding. It is also right that you defend and have a ready defense to give reasons for what you believe. I feel you've done a fine job of that. I give caution as a concerned brother and friend of yours thru our common bond of the Lord Jesus, to beware the snare that so often comes up in heated debates. :) I felt the Lord once impressed me in the following manner: "Let not the words of men striving amonst themselves disillusion you of My body and My Lordship of My church. Go directly to my Word. Seek me in humility, and ask for the truth to be revealed. Be quick to repent, and open to changes in understanding as they are brought forth DIRECTLY from My Word. Ask Me for the true bread, and I shall not give you a serpent." Oftentimes when we start to get riled, it is because we are walking dangerously close to the edge of making a debatable matter more important than the sheep of the Lord. I am not saying this is true of this case.. only you can know as you kneel before the Creator of the Universe and commune with Him. I know myself I've found myself too many times weeping over my sin after I realized it had passed the point of where I was trying to help someone, and I was just trying to prove myself right. I would challenge anyone that would say that you do not have the right to believe as you believe, as long as you are humbly going to the Word of God with a sincere desire to learn the truth of Him and His Word. I for one believe you are doing just that. So be of good cheer and be blessed my friend in Christ! If it means anything at all, I will offer this. I believe God certainly does want all the things you have itterated in this post. He loves you as a perfect parent, and thus wants all of these things for you.. and certainly he wants them for you more than you do for yourself! He has certainly made provision for healing and all-sufficiency. However, he also warns we will walk thru things that are less than ideal, even as he had to. It's in the Word. I believe the people you have listed have each brought important truths to the body of Christ. I also believe that just as any truth that has been restored to the church, that it is subject to the distortions of fallible man, though the basic truth be 100 percent true and genuine. I will give a couple examples ( and probably get myself into the thick of hot water and debate.. ack, I hate opening myself up for potshots.. heh): 1. Slain in Spirit (I don't really like this term, I personally prefer falling under the power of God. Nonetheless, there are several instances where a revelation of the person of God caused people to fall down as though dead or comatose. The question really isn't if God ever does this, but how much of what we see is God doing it. I don't think anyone would argue that God NEVER does this, or that when it happens it is always 100 percent God. So.. that means some of it is genuine and some of it is not. Counterfeit spirituality.. I think we would all agree.. is very serious and we should be ready to put to the test of scripture any activity we see as potentially counterfeit. right? [End of part one.. part two following. Sorry for such a long post!] |
