1 | Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son | Gen 22:2 | bibleman12 | 214889
Hi, Thanks for the reply. You said above: "God told Abraham to offer Isaac as a burnt offering not to "kill" him (Genesis 22:2)." Do you have Scriptural support that a "burnt offering" does not result in the death of the thing offered? |

2 | Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son | Gen 22:2 | humbledbyhisgrace | 214904
No one has stated that "a" result of a burnt offering does not lead to death. The fallacy is saying that "When God told Abraham to kill his son". You are attempting to reconcile something that is not even accurate. In other words, you start off your search to reconcile based on the fact killing is a sin and as you put it, God told Abraham to kill his son. Let me ask you this, was the test to see if Abraham would kill his son as you put it or was it to test Abraham's obedience? Steve |

3 | Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son | Gen 22:2 | bibleman12 | 214909
Hi Steve, I do not know what the test was. But I do know this God told Abraham to sacrifice his son as a burnt offering. That would lead to his son's death of course. Thus his son would die. In SC we would say Abraham killed his son. So what I am trying to find out is: How could God require of Abraham to kill his son by the act of human sacrifice which would be an evil act - when in James 1 Scripture tells us that God does not temp with evil. Nobody seems to have the answer. If you could help I would appreciate it. |

4 | Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son | Gen 22:2 | Vintage68 | 214910
Hi bibleman Why do you equate the SACRIFICE of Isaac to God an evil act (sin)? The other places where the sacrifice of children are mentioned are only in relation to false gods, idols. I added brackets. This was the test, and the culmination of it. Gen.22:10-12 10.) And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. 11.) And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. 12.) And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: (for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.) Vintage68 |

5 | Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son | Gen 22:2 | bibleman12 | 214917
Hi Vintage68, Wasn't God asking Abraham to kill his son? Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. This seems pretty clear to me. I mean after all did not any other burnt offering that was ever offered result in the death of the thing offered? |

6 | Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son | Gen 22:2 | Val | 214918
It may have been because Abraham wanted to know how it was that God would bless all the families of the earth through his seed as promised in genesis 12:3. John 8:56 may refer to Abraham's understanding for in offering his son,ABrahM would have had a lively figure of the future offering of the SOn of God as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
