Bible Question: When God told Abraham to kill his son... why was that not sin and why was that not tempting Abraham to sin? Which would be against what God said in James chapter 1 about God NOT temping any man with evil. |
Bible Answer: Hi bibleman, First of all, we must see that God cannot sin. Sin, all sin, is ultimately transgression against God, so God cannot sin against Himself. God is the creator of life and thus all life belongs to God, therefore, He can do as He wills to do, and whatever pleases Him to do with what belongs to Him. All God does, everything He does, is to bring glory to Himself, if He choses to kill (and He does) it is a righteous act. All who are alive today and all who have ever lived are sinners and the wages of sin is death. So it is purely by God's grace and mercy that we are or anyone who has ever lived is/was allowed to be alive at all. So even if God had allowed Abraham to kill his son, (and that is just speculation) it would have been a righteous act, and not a sin. God 's judgment is always right and just, and if He choses to kill, it is not in an iniquitous or unjust way. God does not commit murder, nor in any way, can God sin. I hope this helps John |
