1 | What were, are, they filled with? | 2 Corinthians | Ray | 84069 | ||
Hi Tim, I believe that we are filled with the holy spirit rather than the Person of the Holy Spirit. Just what is included in the holy spirit I don't know. It might include wonder and amazement, wisdom, joy, and a number of "things". Would you care to look at verse like Exodus 28:2 and Ephesians 5:18? Or 1 Kings 7:14 and Luke 2:40? These refer to being filled with the Spirit or spirit without the word holy (hagios) connected. From the heart, Ray |

Greetings Ray! I pray that all is well with you and your family! As I mentioned before my friend, this is one of the few places where I disagree with you. I just don't see any Scripture which supports the concept that there is the Person called the Holy Spirit and a thing called the holy spirit. Though it is clear that 'spirit' can be used in many senses, I beleive that everytime it occurs with the word 'holy' it is a reference to the 3rd Person of the Trinity. However, I also believe that 'spirit' alone can, but not always, refer to the 3rd Person as well. So, I would see Eph. 5:18 as a reference to the Holy Spiirt. However, the other three verses you listed don't appear to use the word 'spirit' at all. Was there a typo? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hi Tim, Typo on my part; not Exodus 28:2 but rather, Exodus 28:3. "And you shall speak to all the skillful persons [Lit, wise of heart] whom I have endowed with the spirit [sic] of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister as priest to Me." The verses that I referenced spoke of being filled with wisdom. I wonder how much we can put the word spirit in the place of the word wisdom in Scripture references and gain more of the meaning. 1 Kings 7:14, "He [Hiram] was a widow's son from the tribe of Naptali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in bronze; and he was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill for doing any work in bronze. So he came to King Solomon and performed all his work." Tim, you didn't find "spirit" in Luke 2:40 because it is not in the NU text. Luke 2:40, NKJ, And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him." From the heart, Ray |
