1 | What is the context? | Acts | Searcher56 | 92278
Scripture ... 1 CorĀ 12:28 "And God has appointed in the church, FIRST apostles, SECOND prophets, THIRD teachers, THEN miracles, THEN gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues" Verses 29-30 follow the same order ... and adds "All do not interpret" Verses 8-10 lists togues next to last ... then verse 11 says "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills." ... which to me means He decides who gets which gifts. Therefore tongues is a lesser gift ... look at the order and the words FIRST ... THEN. 1 Cor 13:1 says "tongues of men and of angels" not "tongues of men OR angels". -The angel spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai (Act 7:38). -The Law was put into effect by angels (Act 7:53). -The tongues of angels is special because of what it delivers! God showed Himself through angels (Gal 3:19, Heb 2:2-3). When angels spoke, the hearer understood. I have the gifts of teaching and discernment. ---- Is is you who are twisting words. - Matthew 7.9 may be your reference ... but, you need to look at the context ... else it is pretext. Do you think the context of Matthew 18:16 is verses 15-20, which is discipline? I have heard of serveral Bob Jones. I take what I read and heard and match it against the Bible. I even throw away all I know and study Scripture myself ... w/o man's help. Searcher |

2 | What is the context? | Acts | Ken hepting | 92282
"I have the gifts of teaching and discernment". Never heard of the gift of teaching. Everyone in Christ should be apt to teach but it does sound like you have the gift of conceit, and boasting. Maybe you should re-consider what Paul is defining as gifts and adminstrations. Most everything he states is of a supernatural experience requiring you get out of the way. |

Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; These are not gifts. They are Ministries. They are learned. There are schools of learning for such OFFICES. |

6 | Prophet - is it learned or a gift? | Acts | Ken hepting | 92370
"Compare the lists (Eph 4:11...1 Cor 12) is both places ... for example, is a prophet something that is learned or is it a gift?" Well, in the OT they had a school for prophets. I guess one went to Prophet College or something. Obviously it had to do with discerning the times and making predictions based on the history of God doing the things He did and then drawing concusions from those experiences. One who prophecies isn't necessarilly a prophet by "trade" in the Bible. God spoke through Balaams donkey, remember. So if one is yielded to the Holy Spirit at the appointed time he/she will be used by God to bring forth a prophecy. I can't be more specific than that in a hypothetical way here. I just know it happens. It has happened to me. |
