Lisa- I don't think she did know or understand until it actually happened. When the magi brought the gifts, she pondered it in her heart. I think she tried to raise Him just as any other Jewish boy. I believe she tried to protect Him as she would a boy who would be a king but yet tried to let Him live a life like the other boys. Note her letting HIm be away from her in the caravan. I think she also was amazed at His brilliance with the teacher in the synagogue at 12. But it is supposition that He told her of His death before hand unless it was in the same way He told the apostles. And she may not have even took it in as reality. He couldn't die - He was Messiah - although that was probably secondary to the fact that He was her little boy. She and her other children even tried to get him out of the house He was teaching at because they didn't understand the power He had as being God. Remember, Mary was a peasant girl and probably didn't have a lot of access to the scrolls. I don't believe women in those days even had an education - only very rudimentary. So she could only know what the cheif priests told her and knew how to love God. And that love was enough. |

Debbie, did you read my response to your question? At no time did I mention she knew before she concieved, or even during His ministry. I was speaking about how she felt standing at the foot of the cross. |
