Radioman2 I don't see this as an option I see this as a mandate. Man has turned this into an option and therefore never really seeks a total solution. In fact in most cases they pick up their ball and go home (start a new denomination). Jesus called us to unity, for us to be in unity we have no choice than resolve the issue. That may mean someone is going to have to find a tie breaking scripture that proves one point or another or even give a new position. While we may agree to disagree which sounds so nice and civilized this is not what Jesus told us to do. He told us to be in unity for we are all in one body. You ask who will we pick to be the decision maker / tie breaker. I say if it is important the Bible will break the tie if it isn’t important it should not be a point of discussion much less division. I contend Satan is having a field day bringing up points that we shouldn’t even be concerned with and watching us divide over it. He knows united we stand divided we fall. To do this we have to decide to follow Christ instead of our pride, our prejudices, our “church doctrine” , our way of looking at it. Men through out church history have settled major disputes, then we got intellectual, enlightened, self rationalizing and we stopped settling disputes. We left what was worth fighting for and started something new. When this was done in the past a division was rare and the new was considered heresy and was opposed by the church. As of late it is considered the norm and because we don’t want to step on any toes we call them different but in agreement on essential doctrines. EdB |

Hi Ed, At this point in time I am not prepared to discard any doctrine which I believe to be true. To do so would be a sin! I am sure that you feel the same as I do. The last thing we would want to see would be a watered down doctrine that offended no one but was less than God's truth. Let us continue to debate and defend what we believe is truth until the time God Himself shows us our error. Prov 27:17 "Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another." John |

John I never suggested discarding anything we hold as true. What I was suggesting was is the things we hold as true really true, or could the another point of view be more correct? Have we really explored all the possibilities? I think not. A true understanding of a passage can only yield one totally correct answer that agrees with the rest of the Bible, without modification of word, form, or content. Today there are approximately 1600 different interpretations of what is correct. Obviously not all are in regards to the same point but each has found something that was enough for them to separate themselves from the other groups. My question is there that much ambiguity in the Bible or have we left our human nature stop us from really finding the truth? I think the later. If that is so does Christ afford us that luxury? EdB |

Good question Ed, Eccl 3:11 He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end. Of course the fault lies within man an NOT the Bible. Whether or not we are able to come to 100 per cent agreement on every doctrine is God's business and not ours. Our responsibility is to strive towords that end. It's accomplishment is not humanly possible. John |

John Also the total answer may not be available to us and to fabricate one is presumption on our part. Then to allow division over it is prideful which leads to sin. Therefore the nature of my question can we agree to disagree or does Christ demand unity? EdB |
