I was raised as a Christian. When I did extensive fasting, I was seeking truth. In order to do that, I had to discard all and start over. Everyone on this site would find this statement as untrue but me and that is... I do not see God as the only logical conclusion. In fact, I see no logical conclusion.. but I do see the morality in the bible as haveing a proven track record and I can also see why others fail... Having said that, I also see weaknesses in the bible, but most of them have to do with erroring on the side of passiveness. It seems that CHristians are looseing most of the battles in the Culture War... So much so, I do not believe that getting back what was once had, is no longer achievable. Having said that, I also believe that the more battles they loose, the stronger their conviction. Having said that, looking at the bible, I do not see what weapons they have for the Culture War. Treating people nice does not create nice people, it just makes happy "evil" people. |

Pete2 First I think your right God is not a logical conclusion in fact God defies our logic completely. However that does not change the fact that God is God. Your right one of greatest strengths of the Bible is the moral thread that runs completely through it. However it gets it's overall strength because it is the truth of the word of God. The weaknesses of the Bible is not the a fault of the Bible but rather of imperfect humans reading it and interpreting it to mean as they want to read. Jesus assured us the gate of hell would not prevail against the church and for 2000 years it hasn't. It hasn't always looked good but we in the US tend to be myopic, looking only at the church in North America. While the church in North America and even western Europe is suffering setbacks great strides are being made in Eastern Europe, Asia, south and south central Africa, and South and Central America. We in the US are suffering complacency, we have everything we need and quite comfortable when viewed from a world view point. Complacency breeds apathy and apathy has its hands around our neck. We have modified the gospel focusing almost exclusively on grace and avoid any mention of works at all cost. Pastors in an effort to build churches and increase attendance have over the years cultivated a successful crop of pew sitters. They come to church, nod their head when they should approval, go tsk tsk when a sin problem and they should feel conviction, and then they walk out to live like the world the rest of the week. Some families travel to church each week having not mentioned God or anything religious all week. In fact if the truth be known many travel to church in silence not having a common thread for conversation. That is not the fault of God or of the scripture that is a fault of man who had become so self centered he is only seeking to satisfy his itching ears. No my friend and I hope by now we are friends the blame does not reside in God, Jesus Christ, His church, Christianity or Scripture it resides where it always had with man and the fallen nature man possessed since the fall in the garden. Will things change, you bet. When our economy and society collapses from a lack of moral fiber and societies apathy, many will once again begin to seek the truth of God in earnest. Not fill their already blotted stomachs but as their only chance for survival. EdB |
