Subject: Do I have to be Baptized to be saved? |
Bible Note: Greetings, You ask: "Does a person have to be baptized, in order to be saved?" Let's let the Bible answer the question. "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved..." The thief on the cross is not relevant because Jesus did not command baptism until after the cross. Jesus would not demand that the repentant thief be baptized before He had even given the command (see Matthew 28; Mark 16). Peter says that 'baptism now saves you' (1 Peter 3:21) You reference Romans 10:9,10 on how to be saved. Another references Acts 2:38 on how to be saved. Both are right when the Scriptures are harmonized. To be saved, you must Believe with all your heart, you must repent of sin, confess Jesus as Lord, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. You say that 'baptism is a public acknowledgement.' Prove it. Where does it ever say that baptism is a public acknowledgement? All it takes is two people. One who is the baptizer, one is the baptizee. Why would someone refuse to be baptized? Why wouldn't someone refuse to be baptized in this day and age when so many are teaching it wrong? God's gives the purpose of Baptism, but the only thing people will say about it in this forum is that it's a 'public acknowledgement.' Here are the passages to look up if you want to know God's message about Baptism: Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15,16; Acts 2:38; 8:12; 8:35-37; 16:31-33; 22:16; Romans 6:1-6; 1 Cor. 6:11; Galatians 3:26,27; Colossians 2:12; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 10:22; 1 Peter 3:21 [note that here the 'type' is the water of the flood and the 'antitype'-translated 'corresponding'-is baptism. In other words, the baptism Peter preached on Pentecost was pre-figured in the flood]. Good day. |
