Bible Question:
Is it true that only baptized believers have an unrestricted privilege of approaching Jehovah in prayer? Also; Does a person have to be baptized, in order to be saved? |
Bible Answer: Listen to what Jesus said, "He who has believed AND HAS BEEN BAPTISED, shall be saved" Mk 16:16, see also Matt 28:19. Listen to what the apostle Peter said in carrying out the command of his Lord. "Repent AND each of you be BAPTISED in the name of Jesus Christ, FOR the FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SINS" Acts 2:28 Listen to the answer Saul (the apostle Paul) was given by Ananias, when Saul asked the risen Jesus "what must I do". "Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptised, AND wash away your sins, calling on His name" Acts 22:10,16. Paul preached and practised baptism, see Acts 16:14-15;31-33. Note what the apostle Peter wrote. " Baptism now SAVES YOU ... through the resurrection of Jesus Christ" 1 Peter 3:20. Note what the apostle Paul wrote. "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For ALL of you who were BAPTISED into Christ have clothed yourself with Christ" Gal 3:26-27. See Rom 6:3-6, it is the "old self" that is buried in baptism, "that our body of sin might be done away with". Having buried the old in baptism we are raised from death, so that we might "walk in newness of life". see Col 2:12-13. It would seem clear to me that Baptism is necessary for salvation. That baptism is the place where the blood of Jesus washes away our sins. Baptism does not negate the need of grace, faith, confession of Christ or repentance ... but "He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit" Titus 3:5. Then we are "born of water AND the Spirit", John 3:5. I hope this is helpful to you. |
