Subject: Do I have to be Baptized to be saved? |
Bible Note: Derdan, While I believe the Lord desires that we are obedient to His direction to be baptized, I do not think it is a pre-requisite for salvation because of His own scenario with the prisoner who was hung on the cross next to Him, in Luke 23: 39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with Me in paradise." This man who heard Jesus say 'today you will be with Me in paradise' did not have an opportunity to get down off the cross and go to be baptized, yet because he had faith that Jesus is the Christ, Jesus clearly assured him he would be saved and with Him that day in paradise. |
