Bible Question:
Is it true that only baptized believers have an unrestricted privilege of approaching Jehovah in prayer? Also; Does a person have to be baptized, in order to be saved? |
Bible Answer: No, you do not have to be baptized to be saved. Jesus told the thief on the cross in Luke 23:43 that he would be with Him in paradise that very day. Oviously, the repentant thief never had a chance to be baptized. Romans 10:9-10 tells us how to be saved and verse 11 tells us not to be ashamed of our faith in the Lord. Therefore, if one is saved, he/she should welcome the opportunity to publicly proclaim Jesus as Savior. Baptism is a public acknowledgement of our identification with Jesus Christ's death burial and resurrection. Now as far as a hendrance to approaching Jehovah, I would say that if one has a problem with being baptized, he/she is lacking in the spirit of unity which Christ desires to have with those who are his. Refusing or neglecting baptism can be a sign of disobedience and God may hear your prayer, but the answer may be hindered. Romans 10:9-11 |
