Subject: Saved vs. Works (John 5:24 and 5:28-29) |
Bible Note: You begin your post saying that we are saved by works and conclude it saying that if we are not saved, then we would not obey God in the first place. So which is it: saved by good works or do good works because we are saved? I'm not really sure which stand you are taking, and I do not mean to be rude when I suggest that your post, to me at least, is a little ambiguous. I really don't think you mean to say that works actually save a person. But then again, I'm not quite sure what your meaning is. Here's a battery of parting questions to think about: If works save, what need have we of Christ's redemptive work on the cross? If works save, our Lord died in vain, didn't He? If works save, why do pagans have any need of Christ? If works save, why is not one religion as good as another? If works save, Jesus' words "I am the way, the truth, and the life" really don't mean very much, did they? If works save, why should we consider Ephesians 2:8,9 anything but pure bunkum? --Hank |
